David Ortiz is not in the Red Sox lineup on Sunday.

With the Red Sox squaring off against left-hander Martin Perez, Ortiz will get a day off. Ortiz is hitting a respectable .265 against left-handed pitching this season, but the Red Sox are opting to go with recently promoted Bryce Brentz at designated hitter today. Ortiz is having a fantastic year in his final season for the Red Sox, hitting .335 with 18 home runs, 60 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.109. 27-year-old Bryce Brentz will be handling the designated hitter duties and batting sixth for the Red Sox on Sunday.

Dodgers have interest in trading for Jay Bruce.

With Andre Ethier's return timetable up in the air, Joc Pederson is the only left-handed hitting outfielder that the Dodgers have, so they could be looking to acquire one, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better than Bruce. According to Ken Rosenthall Bruce cannot block a trade to the Dodgers. With the Reds already 21 games back of the division lead, it's not out of the realm of possibility that they'd be willing to part ways with some established players in trades. Bruce is having a fantastic year in 2016, hitting .280 this season with 16 home runs and 57 runs batted in with an OPS of .903.

Darren O'Day could come off the 15-day disabled list on the upcoming road trip if everything goes well.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that O'Day could come off the disabled list on the upcoming road trip if everything went "perfect" with his next sim game and bullpen session. O'Day has been out since June 1st with a hamstring injury, and his rehabilitation has gone a bit slower than expected. If everything goes perfectly he will be able to rejoin the Orioles this week without having to make a rehab appearance, but if he suffers a setback all bets are off. The 33-year-old is 2-1 this season with a 3.15 ERA in 22 appearances.

Justin Smoak (knee) remains out of the Blue Jays lineup on Sunday.

The Blue Jays had originally hoped that Smoak would be able to return to the lineup today, but he'll miss his third game in a row when Toronto takes on the Chicago White Sox. The once highly touted prospect is hitting just .160 in the month of June, which is the second month that he's hit under .200 in this season. Edwin Encarnacion will get the start at first base for the Blue Jays on Sunday, and hit third. Encarnacion has had great success against White Sox pitcher Chris Sale in his career, going 5-for-11 with a home run and two runs batted in.

Zack Wheeler will begin long tossing on Monday.

Assistant general manager John Ricco confirmed that Wheeler will begin throwing long toss on Monday, which will be his first time throwing since he experienced nerve irritation in his elbow earlier this week. Wheeler received a cortisone injection to help the nerve pain in his elbow, and hopefully he will be back on track again to go on a minor league rehab assignment at some point in the near future. The Mets have been taking it easy with Wheeler and making sure not to rush him so that he can fully recover before rejoining the team. The 26-year-old last pitched for the Mets in 2014, going 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA.

Miguel Sano (hamstring) will not be recalled for at least another three games.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said on Sunday that Sano is still working on getting his timing down at the plate, and will spend a few more games working on things on his rehab assignment. Sano has been champing at the bit to get back to the Twins, but it appears that his return is at least three games away at best. It looks like Byung-Ho Park will get a few more games with the Twins in the mean time, as many people have speculated that he'd be going down to Triple-A upon Sano's return. The 23-year-old Sano hit .235 with 11 home runs and 27 runs batted in in 50 games before going down with a hamstring injury.

Bo Schultz has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.

With Gavin Floyd going on the disabled list with a shoulder injury today, Schultz is the one receiving the call to join up with the Major League team. Schultz hasn't pitched in the majors since 2015, where he appeared in 31 games with an 0-1 record and posted a 3.56 ERA. The 30-year-old made 14 relief appearances for Triple-A Buffalo this season with a 4.24 ERA and a batting average allowed of .286.

Blue Jays placed Gavin Floyd (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list.

Floyd took himself out of Saturday's game after throwing just four pitches due to shoulder tightness. There's no real timetable for Floyd's return, but Blue Jays manager John Gibbons' hands were tied and needed to make a judgement quickly as the Blue Jays needed to make a roster move. Floyd appeared in 28 games with Toronto this season, posting a 4.06 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 3.75-to-1. Bo Schultz has been called up to help out the Blue Jays bullpen in the mean time.

Ryan Zimmerman is not in the Nationals lineup on Sunday.

Zimmerman has been a bit of a disappointment for the Nationals, hitting just .230 with 10 home runs and 33 runs batted in. The 31-year-old is hitting just .188 with two homers in and nine runs batted in in his last 17 games, so it makes sense that he'd get a breather today. Clint Robinson will play first base and hit sixth for Washington on Sunday, and he's hitting just .213 against right-handed pitchers this season.

Wilson Ramos is not in the Nationals lineup on Sunday.

Ramos has played in nine out of the last 10 games for the Nationals, so it's little surprise that he's going to be rested when Washington faces off against Jimmy Nelson on Sunday. The 28-year-old catcher has been a godsend for Washington this year, as he's hitting .341 (which is second best in the National League behind teammate Daniel Murphy) with 12 home runs and 41 runs batted in and an OPS of an incredible .948. Ramos has also been swinging a hot bat in his last three games, going 7-for-14 with a home run and three runs batted in. Jose Lobaton will be behind the plate and hit eighth for the Nationals on Sunday.
