Michael Wacha labored through four-plus innings in Tuesday’s 12-1 loss to the Cubs, surrendering eight runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out four.

Wacha is in a serious funk. The young right-hander has now retired just 12 batters in each of his last three starts while watching his ERA balloon from 3.12 to an ugly 5.04. Across those last 12 innings, he has allowed 20 runs (16 earned) on 24 hits and eight walks. It will be really tough to keep rolling with Wacha in almost any fantasy league until he gets back on track. He is set to face a tough Nationals’ lineup Sunday afternoon.

Jason Hammel tossed 7.1 innings in Tuesday’s 12-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four.

After taking his first loss of the season this past Thursday in Milwaukee, Hammel improved to 6-1 with this outstanding effort against the Cardinals. The veteran righty has now given up one run or less in 6-of-9 starts so far this year, resulting in his excellent 2.17 ERA across 54 innings. As evidenced Tuesday night, Hammel is backed up by an incredibly strong lineup and is currently performing at an All-Star level. He will look to keep it going Monday afternoon against the Dodgers.

Jorge Soler went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a couple of walks, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday’s 12-1 rout of the Cardinals.

Soler has had a mostly frustrating season with the bat to this point, but he is beginning to show some life. The young slugger has gone 6-for-20 with four walks, two homers, two doubles, four RBI and seven runs scored over the past six days. It may be time to start snatching Soler off of the fantasy waiver wire in deeper leagues if possible.
