Fantasy Baseball Bullpen Report: May 2
Howard Bender

Brandon Finnegan left Monday's game in the sixth due to a tight hamstring.

If you're a Cincinnati pitcher, expect to get injured at some point. It's been an absolutely tumultuous year for Cincy starters, as multiple are or have been injured at some point. Expect to see Robert Stephenson up with the Reds sometime soon.

Daniel Murphy has recorded his 1,000th career hit.

After his power binge in the postseason last year, Murphy has come out red hot to begin the 2016 campaign. He is hitting .375 on the season and looks poised for a big year as a member of the Washington Nationals.

Update: Tommy Pham is expected to start a rehab assignment on Wednesday.

Pham can be a quality fantasy asset, but playing time is going to be hard to come by in the St. Louis lineup. He is likely on the waiver wire of your league, but he isn't worth adding at the moment.

Joaquin Benoit (shoulder inflammation) will not come off the DL on Friday when he's eligible.

Benoit still needs some time to get healthy, but he is progressing in the right direction at the very least. When he does return, he will hold down a setup role, while Steve Cishek holds down the closing job.

Bartolo Colon has passed Pedro Martinez for wins by a native of the Dominican Republic.

Big congratulations to Bartolo Colon! He continues to pitch and be effective, given his higher age and nonathletic build. He now has 220 career wins and will look to continue to build upon that number. Congrats, Bartolo!

R.A. Dickey allowed one run on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts over 6.1 innings in the Blue Jays 2-1 loss to the Rangers Monday

It is getting to the point that the Blue Jays may want to limit Dickey's role in the rotation as the knuckleball does not seem to have the same magic on it that it did a few years back. Despite the solid outing Monday, Dickey has been mediocre at best this year and of no real fantasy value. Unless he can find his form of his Cy Young year with the Mets, Dickey will continue to be a regular on the waiver wire. Dickey will pick up his next start on Saturday against the Dodgers seeing a NL lineup for the first time this season. This is not a good match-up for the knuckleballer being the batters he has face on LA have hit .325 in their lifetime against him and with his pitches seemingly being left out over the plate that number has a chance to rise Saturday.

Shawn Tolleson picked up his ninth save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth in the Rangers 2-1 win over the Blue Jays Monday

Tolleson has pitched well in the ninth for the Blue Jays so far this season and looks like he will be the mainstay at the closer position. He picked up his ninth save of the season which could help out any squad in season-long despite his ERA being a bit inflated. This Rangers team has shown it can win close games this year making Tolleson more valuable as he should see plenty of save opportunities. If for some reason, he is still available on your waiver wires and the save stat is recorded in your leagues, he should be a welcome addition to your squads.

Brett Nicholas went 1-for-2 with a home run, one RBI, one run scored and two walks in the Rangers 2-1 win over the Blue Jays Monday

Nicholas has filled in for the Rangers as their backup and done a pretty good job as he is hitting .241 with two home runs through eight games on the season. Nicholas does not project to be much of a fantasy impact due to his backup status and the fact that he will not see a lot of plate appearances. Look for Holaday to pick up the majority of the starts until Chirinos is back healthy which should send Nicholas back down to the minors.

Nomar Mazara went 2-for-4 with a home run, one RBI and one run scored in the Rangers 2-1 win over the Blue Jays Monday

Mazara blasted his third home run of the season and continues to shine for this Rangers team who are not missing the bats of Choo and Hamilton in the lineup currently. Mazara will make it tough on management once the aforementioned are healthy due to his impact he has had at the top of the lineup. It seems as if Mazara will be a mainstay as long as he stays healthy and keeps hitting. Mazara's next game will come Tuesday against the Blue Jays and he should be a nice option in both DFS and season-long as he has recorded a hit in 7 of his last 10 outings.

A.J. Griffin allowed one run on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts over six innings in the Rangers 2-1 win over the Blue Jays Monday

Griffin has been a pleasant addition to this Rangers starting rotation as they were not very sure at what they were going to get out of him heading into the season. He allowed just one run over six innings and set his team up for the win yet again as he has limited his opponents to three runs or less in each of his outings. Griffin, who has not pitched in the Majors since 2013 is someone you can take a risk on but head into it knowing he may not last the full season as his arm has to be of some concern after it taking him so long to come back from Tommy John surgery. Griffin will pick up his next start Saturday against the Tigers who he has not faced since 2013, so if you are thinking about using him in DFS you should base your strategy off of this year's performances to this point.
