Justin Schultz Headshot

Schultz recorded a power-play goal and an assist in Thursday's 3-2 double overtime Game 7 victory over the Senators.

Schultz's goal gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead with 8:16 remaining in the third, but they promptly coughed that advantage up when Ryan Dzingel lit the lamp for Ottawa just 2:57 later. The blueliner's impact in his return from a four-game injury-related absence didn't end there, as he earned an assist on Chris Kunitz's double overtime winner. Schultz has carried over his offensive prowess from a 51-point regular season with three goals and seven assists in 15 appearances this postseason.

Ryan Dzingel Headshot

Dzingel scored a goal in Thursday's 3-2 double overtime Game 7 loss to the Penguins.

Dzingel's second goal of the playoffs tied the game 2-2 with 5:19 to play, but it didn't end up being enough to earn a Stanley Cup Finals berth. He wasn't the only unlikely hero on this night, with all of the game's goalscorers having combined for just seven goals entering the night.

Erik Karlsson Headshot

Karlsson earned helpers on both Ottawa goals in Thursday's 3-2 Game 7 double overtime loss to the Penguins.

Karlsson assisted on a second-period goal by Mark Stone and a third-period tally by Ryan Dzingel, both of which came within three minutes of Pittsburgh pulling ahead. There was no chance to answer the Penguins' third goal, though, as Chris Kunitz's tally 5:09 into the second overtime ended the game on the spot. The Senators' captain finishes the postseason with two goals and 16 assists in 19 games.

Chris Kunitz Headshot

Kunitz contributed his first two goals of the playoffs and a power-play assist in Thursday's 3-2 double overtime Game 7 victory over Ottawa.

Kunitz opened the scoring 9:55 into the second period, then earned a helper on Justin Schultz's go-ahead tally with 8:16 to play in the third. Unfortunately for the veteran winger and his team, the Senators responded to each of those goals by potting one themselves within the next three minutes. The one-time 35-goal scorer turned back the clock one more time 5:09 into the second overtime, beating netminder Craig Anderson to make Pittsburgh the fifth team in NHL history to advance to the Stanley Cup finals on a Game 7 overtime winner. Kunitz's performance was truly out of left field considering he pulled it off after posting just two assists in his first 13 appearances this postseason.
1:27 am (EST)
Mark Stone Headshot

Stone scored his fifth goal of the postseason in Thursday's 3-2 double overtime Game 7 loss to Pittsburgh.

Stone's second-period tally tied the game 1-1 just 20 seconds after Chris Kunitz opened the scoring for the Penguins. The three-time 50-point scorer wasn't given the chance to repeat that feat after Kunitz's second goal, though, as that one sent Pittsburgh to the Stanley Cup Finals and ended Ottawa's season in the second overtime. Stone provided just one goal and one assist in this series, and went through a five-game point drought encompassing Games 2 through 6.

John Hicks Headshot

Hicks was recalled by the Tigers on Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

He was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the week, which would usually bar him from returning to the Tigers until next week, but an injury to James McCann will allow Hicks to rejoin the club for its weekend series against the White Sox. Hicks will catch one installment of the Tigers' doubleheader in Chicago on Friday and he could catch the day game Saturday depending on who catches the nightcap. Hicks made a strong impression during his previous stint with the Tigers, slashing .423/.444/.654 with a home run and three doubles in 26 at-bats.
12:07 am (EST)
Wilson Ramos Headshot

Ramos (knee) is scheduled to catch a pair of batting practice sessions in Port Charlotte next week, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The veteran backstop will catch Brad Boxberger (back), who'll be taking his first crack at throwing batting practice as part of his rehab. Ramos successfully resumed catching drills in mid-May and has looked impressive thus far.
12:07 am (EST)
James McCann Headshot

McCann (hand) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

John Hicks has been recalled to take McCann's spot on the roster ahead of Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox. McCann suffered a laceration on his left hand after being hit by a pitch Thursday, and while there's still no report of any injury beyond that, he'll still require a DL stint. Alex Avila should see the bulk of the starts behind the plate in McCann's absence, but the upcoming schedule should ensure some starts for Hicks as well.
12:01 am (EST)
Brad Miller Headshot

Miller (abdomen) is scheduled to take batting practice against Brad Boxberger (back) next week and also play in extended spring training games, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Miller has progressively been ramping up his activity this week, and has progressed to the point where he'll be ready to handle live pitching. The infielder remains without a firm timetable for return, but the extent of his expected participation next week should be a solid barometer of where he stands in his rehab.
12:01 am (EST)
Matt Duffy Headshot

Duffy (heel) is scheduled to take batting practice against Brad Boxberger (back) next week and also play in extended spring training games, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The infielder has had plenty of starts and stops in his rehab, with the latest setback coming after he fouled a ball off his foot while taking batting practice. Duffy has managed to play three games with High-A Charlotte, hitting .250 over eight at-bats. His batting practice sessions and the game action he's expected to see should serve as a good barometer of where he stands physically.
