Sammy Watkins Headshot

X-Rays show that Sammy Watkins foot is fully healed but he does not have a timetable for a return to practice.

We haven't even turned the page into August yet so there is absolutely no reason for the Bills to push Watkins at this point. Watkins is going to be heavily targeted in all leagues this season after hauling in 60 passes with over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. He will be eased into action, but will be ready to go Week 1 against Baltimore.

Davante Adams Headshot

Davante Adams is reportedly off to a slow start at Packers' training camp.

Adams had a terrible 2015 season due to a combination of injury and ineffectiveness. He is expected to begin the season as Green Bay's third WR, but if he falters during training camp, he could fall even further down the depth chart.

Jeanmar Gomez Headshot

Jeanmar Gomez allowed one run on two hits while walking one and striking out one in one inning of work to record the save (27) on Thursday against the Braves.

It wasn’t easy for Gomez but he was able to nail down his 27th save of the year on Thursday. He allowed three base runners and even let one of them score, but stopped the bleeding there. Gomez has now converted 27-of-30 save opportunities and has been one of the more consistent closers in all of Major League Baseball.

Aaron Altherr Headshot

Aaron Altherr went 3-for-4 with a home run (1), two RBI and two runs scored against the Braves on Thursday.

Thursday marked Altherr’s first game back off the disabled list since 2015 and he did not disappoint. He notched three hits including his first home run of the year. Altherr came back at the perfect time as the Phillies just placed their starting right fielder, Peter Bourjos, on the disabled list. Altherr is going to continue to have every opportunity to play everyday and prove his worth. He could play his way into a part of the Phillies future plans. In fantasy, we should wait and see how well he continues to play before jumping the gun and picking him up while dropping someone with greater value.

Tommy Joseph Headshot

Tommy Joseph went 2-for-5 with a home run (14), one RBI and two runs scored against the Braves on Thursday.

Right after Maikel Franco launched a three-run bomb in the first inning, Joseph followed suit, hitting his 14th homer of the year. Before being called up, Joseph had been raking in Triple-A, especially in the power department posting a .611 slugging percentage. His 14 home runs in 57 games at the big league level shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as he’s always been able to hit the long ball. We should expect some kind of regression because the 25-year old rookie isn’t likely going to keep his OPS at .826 when his career mark in the minor leagues is .733.

Maikel Franco Headshot

Maikel Franco went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run (19) against the Braves on Thursday.

Franco got the scoring off with a bang on Thursday, crushing a three-run homer in the first inning, his 19th of the year. Franco had gone eight games without an RBI and he hadn’t hit a home run since July 10th. Franco came into Thursday’s contest flat out owning Matt Wisler during recent outings, going 5-for-9 with a home run. Starting him in DFS would have been a fantastic idea.

Aaron Nola Headshot

Aaron Nola allowed three runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out five over five innings against the Braves on Thursday.

Nola wasn’t very sharp on Thursday but made pitches when he needed and left the ballgame in line to win. After an extremely solid April and May, Nola has severely regressed and posted an ERA north of 6.00 in both June and July. The one area of Nola’s game he’s been wildly consistent with is the strikeout. He’s struck out 121 batters in 111 innings pitched as he ranks 12th in the entire National League in that category. Nola’s fantasy owners – if there are any left – have likely ripped their hair out of their head during his starts. He’s too unreliable to own right now.

Adonis Garcia Headshot

Adonis Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI against the Phillies on Thursday.

Thanks to how horribly the Braves have played this season, you probably didn’t know Adonis Garcia is one of the hottest hitters on the planet right about now. While notching his fourth straight multi-hit game, Garcia extended his hitting streak to modest 10 games. He still isn’t leaving the yard at all but he’s showing gap-to-gap power as he has nine doubles in the month of July alone. Garcia’s recent hot streak has made him somewhat relevant in fantasy leagues, especially in NL-only formats.

Matt Wisler Headshot

Matt Wisler allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out three over five innings against the Phillies on Thursday.

The home run ball bit Wisler on hard on Thursday. Probably harder than Warren Sapp was reportedly bit by a shark. Wisler has now put together four forgettable performances in a row and is likely going to be sent down or moved to the bullpen. In those aforementioned four starts, he’s allowed 23 earned runs over 20.1 innings. He doesn’t make up for it in the strikeout category and isn’t an unlikely pitcher as opposing batters have posted a .265 average against him. The 23-year old needs to find the stuff he was throwing in May when he posted a 2.51 ERA in six starts. If you haven’t dropped him by now, please do so promptly.

Adalberto Mejia Headshot

Twins acquired Adalberto Mejia from the Giants in exchange for Eduardo Nunez.

Mejia is a very good get for the Twins, especially considering that Nunez began the season as a utility player. Over 18 starts split between Double-A and Triple-A, Nunez posted a 2.81 ERA with 101 strikeouts over 105 2/3 innings pitched. He will head to Triple-A Rochester and could be called up in September. Mejia will most certainly compete for a rotation spot next spring.
