DFS MLB Hitting Coach May 4

The Indians acquire catcher Chris Gimenez from the Rangers for cash considerations.

Gimenez has been quite the journeymen throughout his professional career thus far. This will be his fifth different franchise over his previous eight seasons. Gimenez should be relied on to be nothing more than a backup for the Tribe.

Garrett Richards is questionable for Friday's start.

After leaving his prior start due to dehydration and exhaustion, Richards could still be feeling the symptoms as he's been downgraded to questionable for Friday's start. He hasn't thrown any sort of bullpen session in-between his two starts. The Angels ace has yet to get threw seven innings in a game this year as he needs to seemingly challenge hitters more to avoid high pitch counts each and every time he toes the rubber.

Paul Janish is going on paternity leave Wednesday.

Janish was just recently called up when J.J. Hardy went on the disabled list and now he's gone to become a father. Janish has yet to make a major league appearance yet this season, but he did hit a career-high .286 in 2015. It was a very small sample size, yes, but he's historically been awful so any average that high is a plus.

Salvador Perez is not in the Royals starting lineup Wednesday.

Perez has started five straight games so he'll finally get a game off on Wednesday. Perez has struggled recently going just 3-for-22 with no extra-base hits and no RBI. Drew Butera will draw the start behind the dish and bat ninth.

Update: Nick Braves Markakis was excused from Wednesday's game for a family emergency back home.

We now understand why Markakis won't be in Wednesday's lineup and why Mallex Smith will leadoff. Markakis is the everyday leadoff hitter for Atlanta as he's hitting .281 on the year. We should consider Markakis day-to-day,

Kelly Olynyk is expected to let the Celtics know if he will have surgery on his shoulder within the next week or so.

Down the stretch of the year Olynyk was banged up and barely was able to play in Boston's first-round playoff matchup against the Hawks. He played 32 minutes total over six games to be exact. Olynyk had a rollercoaster season but did do some really nice things. The seven-footer shot 40-percent from beyond the arc which was a career-high. He's irrelevant in fantasy basketball going forward whether or not he has shoulder surgery or not.

Anthony DeSclafani remains shut down with a strained left oblique after he experienced a setback Friday during a rehab assignment start with Single-A Dayton.

Now that DeSclafani suffered a setback, we're now totally in the dark as to when he will return. His original return was supposed to take place sometime next week but that now looks highly unlikely. DeSclafani will join the Reds rotation immediately upon his return but give him a few starts before considering him in fantasy.

Mike Moustakas (thumb) has returned to the Royals lineup Wednesday.

Moustakas sat out Tuesday's game but was able to come away with a clutch pinch hit, driving in two runs off Nationals closer Jon Papelbon. Moustakas will man his normal position at third base in Wednesday's game. Moose has shown a lot of power this season as he's already posted seven homers on the year. 2016's early power surge has made him one of the better third basemen in all of fantasy.

Mallex Smith is leading off for the Braves Wednesday.

Smith has had 14 prior at-bats at leadoff this season and he has not fared well at all, posting a .071 batting average. Smith is a big time base stealer and the Braves need someone who can get themselves into scoring position once they got on. Smith could become fantasy relevant if he starts hitting a bit more.

Nomar Mazara will stay with Rangers when Shin-Soo Choo returns.

There is no way the Rangers could send down the 21-year-old right now. He had a .333/.386/.486 batting line over his first 72 major league at-bats. Choo has begun batting practice this week and will look to start a rehab assignment within the next two weeks. We should expect Choo back with the ball club by mid-May, as long as there are no setbacks.
