Brandon Phillips Headshot

Phillips is not expected to play Thursday according to manager Brian Snitker, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.

Phillips apparently aggravated his groin while sliding into second base during Wednesday's contest, forcing him to exit after just one inning. The injury isn't thought to be overly serious, and he could be available to pinch hit Thursday, but he isn't expected to start until Friday at the earliest. Jace Peterson filled in for him Wednesday and should continue to do so until Phillips is able to return.

Rick Porcello Headshot

Porcello (1-3) gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out nine over 6.2 innings in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Yankees.

He threw 73 of 118 pitches for strikes while striking out a season-high nine, but with Luis Severino firing goose eggs opposite him, the two-run homer Porcello served up to Aaron Judge in the second inning was two runs too many. The 28-year-old righty will try to get back in the win column Monday at home against the Orioles.

Shelby Miller Headshot

Miller (elbow) apparently has a ligament issue in his elbow and is contemplating Tommy John surgery, Tommy Stokke of FanRag Sports reports.

Miller, who was pulled from his last start and placed on the DL with forearm soreness, is still waiting to hear back from Dr. James Andrews on his MRI results, though Tommy John surgery is apparently a possibility. This isn't too surprising, given Miller said earlier Wednesday that doctors "found something in there," according to Jack Magruder of FanRag Sports. He had 4.09 ERA and 20 strikeouts through 22 innings (four starts) this year before going down with the injury. Zach Godley was recalled from Triple-A and has taken his place in the rotation for the time being.
10:48 pm (EST)
Aaron Judge Headshot

Judge went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox.

With Luis Severino firing seven scoreless innings, Judge supplied all the offense the right-hander would need, hitting his seventh homer of the season in the second inning after Starlin Castro reached on an error and then walking and scoring in the sixth. Judge now has four home runs in his last seven games, hitting .321 (9-for-28) over that stretch with seven RBI and eight runs scored.
10:47 pm (EST)
Aroldis Chapman Headshot

Chapman allowed a run on one hit and two walks while striking out two in an inning of work to record his fifth save of the season in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox.

It's the first run the big lefty's allowed this season, while all four of his walks have come in his last four appearances. That's about as close to a slump as Chapman has gotten in 2017, given his 11:4 K:BB in 7.1 innings, and as the core of the young Yankees roster continues to gel he should continue to pile up, and convert, save opportunities.
10:41 pm (EST)
Luis Severino Headshot

Severino (2-1) scattered three hits and two walks while striking out six over seven scoreless innings in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox.

It's the first time this season Severino has avoided serving up a homer in a start, but the two walks actually doubled his total on the year and he now has an eye-popping 33:4 K:BB through 27 innings. He'll look to stay locked in Monday at home against the Blue Jays.
10:37 pm (EST)
Maikel Franco Headshot

Franco went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, his fourth home run of the season, in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Marlins.

He's still hitting just .203 (15-for-74) on the year, but Franco has started to put things together, racking up three multi-hit performances and 11 RBI in his last six games.
10:28 pm (EST)
Vince Velásquez Headshot

Velasquez (1-2) gave up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over 6.1 innings in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Marlins.

The right-hander threw 19 first-pitch strikes, and 68 of 97 pitches for strikes in total, as Velasquez put together his longest outing of the season so far and his second consecutive quality start. He'll face a tough test in his next trip to the mound, however, on the road against the Cubs on Monday.
10:25 pm (EST)
Adeiny Hechavarria Headshot

Hechavarria went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Phillies.

It's just his second multi-hit game of the year so far, and Hechavarria is now hitting .242 (8-for-33) on the season. Even in an improving Marlins lineup, the shortstop's spot in the eight-hole and lack of power or speed makes him a fantasy afterthought in most formats.
10:22 pm (EST)
Wei-Yin Chen Headshot

Chen (2-1) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Phillies. He struck out three.

A Maikel Franco grand slam in the third inning, as well as a lack of run support, doomed Chen to his first loss of the season. The left-hander has been alternating strong starts with shakier ones to begin the year, putting him in line to rebound Monday at home against the Rays.
