James McCann Headshot

McCann exited Thursday's game against the Astros with a left hand laceration.

The 26-year-old was hit on the left hand by a Mike Fiers offering earlier in Thursday's contest and was visibly bleeding as he left the field. The timing of his injury is particularly unfortunate for the Tigers, who have a doubleheader on tap for Friday followed by a day game Saturday. According to John Wagner of the Toledo Blade, catcher John Hicks will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to add catching depth for at least Friday.

Luis Avilán Headshot

Avilan (triceps) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday.

Adam Liberatore was activated from the DL in a corresponding move Thursday, but Avilan's injury is still a blow to the Dodger bullpen. Avilan had recorded a 3.00 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 15.0 innings prior to landing on the DL with triceps soreness. The Dodgers do not have a timetable for his return at this time, but Liberatore figures to be the team's primary left-handed option out of the pen while Avilan is on the shelf.
9:42 pm (EST)
Ryan Braun Headshot

Braun exited Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks with tightness in his left calf, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

This is concerning news as Braun just returned from a left calf injury on Sunday. He was given the day off Wednesday, but his calf is clearly still bothering him. The Brewers figure to have another update on the severity of Braun's calf issue later Thursday, but this will be an injury to monitor closely. If Braun's injury causes him to miss additional time, Hernan Perez could see regular playing time in left field.
9:35 pm (EST)
Jason Heyward Headshot

Heyward went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's win over San Francisco.

The outfielder has recorded a hit and scored a run in each of his five games since returning from the disabled list, and Heyward pulled a would-be home run foul by a foot Wednesday. His fantasy stock is continuing to trend up after a disastrous first season with the Cubs. Heyward offers five-category upside, and his defense will keep him in the lineup most nights.
9:31 pm (EST)
Dustin Pedroia Headshot

Pedroia (undisclosed) was removed from Thursday's game against the Rangers in the sixth inning, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

The Red Sox have yet to announce the reason behind Pedroia's early exit, but there figures to be an update in the near future. Josh Rutledge will take over at second base for the remainder of Thursday's series finale against Texas.
9:26 pm (EST)
Adam Liberatore Headshot

Liberatore (groin) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Thursday.

The Dodgers fortified their bullpen depth by activating Liberatore after they placed Luis Avilan on the DL with left triceps soreness. Liberatore, who notched a 3.38 ERA over 42.2 innings last season, figures to fill a left-handed specialist role now that he's back with the team. He held lefties to a .171 average in 2016.
9:21 pm (EST)
James McCann Headshot

McCann exited Thursday's game against the Astros after being hit on the wrist by a pitch, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Alex Avila has come on to replace McCann, who left the field with blood on his left hand after being hit by a Mike Fiers offering. More updates on McCann will be available after he is examined by the Tigers' training staff, but if he's unable to play Friday, it could put the team in a precarious position at catcher with a doubleheader against the White Sox on tap.
9:16 pm (EST)
Eddie Butler Headshot

Butler (2-0) allowed a single run on just four hits and two walks while striking out a batter through five innings during Thursday's win over San Francisco.

Butler has won two of this three starts and now sports a 1.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 5.8 K/9. The Cubs discussed using six starters during the offseason, so even when Brett Anderson (back) returns, Butler could still stick in the rotation. Additionally, Butler has the potential to leapfrog Anderson entirely. However, Chicago could also look outside the organization for a pitching upgrade at some point, so there are probably too many unknowns at this stage of the game to make Butler a long-term fantasy priority in the majority of settings. He does boast fleeting value with his next start projected to be on the road against San Diego.
9:11 pm (EST)
Magnus Hellberg Headshot

Hellberg agreed to terms with Kunlun of the KHL on Thursday, R-Sport reports.

With Hellberg firmly entrenched as the third goalie in the Rangers' system, he'll head over to the KHL's only Chinese team in an effort to receive more playing time. The 26-year-old appeared in just two games for the Rangers this season, notching a win and posting a 1.52 GAA and .929 save percentage in those contests.
