As Cleveland continues to stockpile draft choices, they have cleared at least spot in camp on Friday. After signing Saalim Hakim just four days ago, the Browns have released him one day after taking Casey Coleman in the first round. Hakim has experience with the Jets and in the return game so he will look to catch on with another franchise once the draft is over.
Not only did a Twins veteran pack for his rehab, he is also planning on rejoining the team in Houston next week. Trevor Plouffe has been sidelined with an intercostal strain but is in line to be activated on Monday after two games of rehab with Fort Myers. Plouffe is the regular third baseman and was hitting .302/.333/.535 with two home runs and six RBI in his first 12 games with Minnesota prior to his injury.
Although many were disappointed by the rookie's debut, the Twins have kept him in line to start on Monday in Houston. Jose Berrios arrived in the majors with much fantasy fanfare. He gave up five earned runs in four innings with five strikeouts but with two walks. Staying on regular rest is important for a rookie and Berrios may improve on Monday in Houston as the Astros carry a 27.4 K% as a team against right handed pitching. There are going to be growing pains as a rookie pitcher adjusts to the majors. Berrios will look to work deeper in the game on Monday in Houston with strikeout upside for his fantasy owners.
After missing a rehab due to the flu, a Pirates pitcher may have passed his final test to return to the team. Jared Hughes is a middle reliever for Pittsburgh but has not been active this season. Last year, Hughes won three games in 67 innings with a 36:19 K:BB and a 2.28 ERA, 3.81 FIP and 1.33 WHIP. Since he is not in line for saves, his value in fantasy is minimal but will provide depth in the bullpen if activated Saturday.
Whether Curry is optimistic or not, the decision ultimately isn't up to him. The Warriors need him to be healthy and there's no need to risk his future rushing him back. Curry is the league's MVP and they obviously need him to win a championship, but there is only so much he can do with a sprained knee. Don't rush back, Curry. Don't risk further injury.
Luckily, his left shoulder isn't his pitching arm and manager Bryan Price thinks it's just old scar tissue flaring up. Moscot is expected to make his next start. Wait a few starts before giving him a look in fantasy formats.
Triggs had previously been with the big league club but only made one appearance. Briggs has been really solid throughout his minor league career and the Athletics hope it can translate to the majors.
It was pretty shocking when McBride was called up in the first place as he's hitting just .188 in Triple-A and he's heading right back there after a short stint in the majors. McBride has some pop, but doesn't provide much else at the dish.
After getting smoked in his last start, Bassitt will head to the disabled list. He had been going through a decline in fastball velocity and there was obviously a reason why. Sean Manaea and Jesse Hahn will both join the team's rotation.
