Nelson Cruz Headshot

Nelson Cruz left Tuesday's game with an apparent injury.

Cruz injured the leg running from first to third during the game. He was replaced by Franklin Gutierrez, and there will be more info to come on the Mariners' slugger.

Luis Valbuena Headshot

Update: Luis Valbuena left Tuesday's game with a right hamstring strain.

Valbuena tweaked something on his way to first base during the game, but was able to walk off on his own. He's day-to-day at this point.

Alex Cobb Headshot

Alex Cobb threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Cobb was pulled off his rehab due to fatigue last week. While this is not looked at as a setback, the team will have to look at the results and figure out if he is ready to resume his rehab. Cobb is still a long way from being game ready, and it is questionable if owners will get much out of him as the season grows shorter.

Luis Valbuena Headshot

Luis Valbuena was injured Tuesday running to first base.

He fell down on his way to first, but managed to walk off the field under his own power. He appeared to tweak something in his right leg, and should be considered day-to-day, at least until the team releases further details about his leg problem. Marwin Gonzalez moved over to cover third, with Jason Castro entering the game to play first base.

Jeff Locke Headshot

Jeff Locke, who was scheduled to start Friday, has entered Tuesday's game in relief.

It will depend on the length of this outing as to whether he can start as scheduled on Friday. Given the awful results he has been posting as a starter, however, the team might be better served to let him go on Tuesday and find another option for Friday's tilt against the Brewers.

Nigel Bradham Headshot

Nigel Bradham has been arrested after an alleged battery of hotel worker.

Apparently you do not want to provide slow service to Bradham, as that supposedly led to his punching a hotel worker in the face last week. He did turn himself in, and was charged with aggravated assault. The team has released a statement that it is aware of the situation, but did not comment further. This will play out over the next several weeks, if not months.

Ryan Madson Headshot

Athletics manager Bob Melvin told reporters that he will stick with Ryan Madson at closer.

With the blown save on Monday night against the Rangers, he has coughed up three victories in July. His 3.77 ERA and 1.28 WHIP do not portend well for him to continue as the ninth inning guy if he continues to struggle going forward.

Russell Wilson Headshot

Seahawks have agreed on a new contract with head coach Pete Carroll that will keep him with the team through 2019.

Carroll has had an obviously successful run as the Seahawk head coach. The team is wise to lock him up and avoid any controversy about his future as the leader of Seattle's football team.

Cory Gearrin Headshot

Corey Gearrin will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday and if all goes well he will be sent on a rehab assignment.

Gearrin has been working to recover from a right shoulder sprain he suffered in early July. Even when he returns to action, and assuming he is added to the major league roster, he will provide only middle relief support out the bullpen, and is essentially fantasy irrelevant.

Justin Houston Headshot

According to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Justin Houston has been ruled out of the team's training camp.

Houston had ACL surgery in February, and there is no set timetable for his return to action. It does not sound as though he will be a training camp participant, though, and is more likely to be activated during the season. He is someone to put on your radar in IDP leagues, and a player to grab off the wire once he is activated.
