Mikie Mahtook (R) Headshot

Mahtook will start in center field and bat fifth Sunday against the Twins, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The Tigers' recent trade that sent J.D. Martinez to the Diamondbacks has opened up regular time in the outfield for both Alex Presley and Mahtook, who had previously been working in a platoon in center field. With right field now available, Presley has started to see most of the starts at that position, while Mahtook has continued to hit well while logging most of the time in center. Mahtook carries a six-game hitting streak into Sunday's contest and is slashing .358/.364/.566 in July.

J.D. Martínez (R) Headshot

Martinez (hand) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.

Martinez was removed from Wednesday's game due to what was called a left hand contusion, and despite both his X-rays and MRI coming back clean, he will miss his fourth consecutive game. With A.J. Pollock also getting the day off, the Diamondbacks will roll with an outfield composed of Daniel Descalso (left), Gregor Blanco (center) and David Peralta (right). Word has yet to surface on when Martinez might be available for a pinch-hit opportunity.

Álex Ávila (L) Headshot

Avila is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The Twins are bringing the left-handed Adalberto Mejia to the hill, so Avila will bow out of the lineup for the second time in four games, opening up a start at catcher for James McCann. Third baseman Nick Castellanos will move into the two hole while Avila is on the bench.
12:41 pm (EST)
Miguel Cabrera (R) Headshot

Cabrera (collarbone) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Twins, playing first base and batting fourth, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Cabrera was hit in the chest by a hard grounder in Friday's game, so the Tigers gave him Saturday off. It appears the injury was a minor one, and the former MVP should be good to go heading into the upcoming week. He'll face off against Twins left-hander Adalberto Mejia on Sunday for the first time in his career.
12:41 pm (EST)
A.J. Pollock (R) Headshot

Pollock is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.

Pollock had started back-to-back games in center field, and is currently posting a 1.400 OPS over his recent five-game hitting streak. Despite swinging a hot bat, he'll get a day of rest in favor of Gregor Blanco for the afternoon matchup.
12:36 pm (EST)
Hernán Pérez (R) Headshot

Perez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

Perez had started four straight games before hitting the bench Saturday following Ryan Braun's return from calf and wrist injuries. With Braun busting out for three hits and four RBI, it looks like Perez will settle back into a part-time role once again, though his ability to play all over the diamond and in the outfield should afford him at least a handful of starts every week.

Damyean Dotson Headshot

Dotson will sign a three-year contract with the Knicks, Michael Scotto of the Associated Press reports.

The deal reportedly includes guarantees for the first two years, so it seems highly likely that Dotson will be on the regular-season roster following training camp. Dotson, widely considered a three-and-D prospect, had a standout performance during the Orlando Summer League with averages of 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 5.0 three-pointers per contest. He'll provide emergency depth as another shooter off the bench on the wing, although Dotson could earn a more prominent role in the rotation as the season progresses.
12:33 pm (EST)
Alex Presley (L) Headshot

Presley went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Twins.

Presley has been platooning in center field with Mikie Mahtook, and both players are also getting time in right along with Jim Adduci. With a .329/.380/.435 slash line on the season, Presley is doing what he can to carve out a larger share of playing time moving forward.
12:33 pm (EST)
Seth Smith (L) Headshot

Smith is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros.

Smith is usually a mainstay in the lineup against right-handers, but manager Buck Showalter will have the outfielder hit the bench for the second time in three days against a righty. The decision to bench Smith may have just been a means of finding some work for Hyun Soo Kim, but it's not expected that Smith will surrender his platoon role on a permanent basis. The 28-year-old has been quite productive over the last six games he's played, batting 9-for-21 with three home runs and four RBI.
12:30 pm (EST)
Kris Bryant (R) Headshot

Bryant (finger) returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in Saturday's win over the Cardinals.

Manager Joe Maddon said on Friday that Bryant would miss Saturday's game as well, but the star third baseman progressed quicker than expected and got in the lineup. With a strong game in the books, it looks like Bryant is recovered from the strained finger and ready to roll on a regular basis.
