The 2012 MLB season has officially begun with games being played in Japan between the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners. However, the real Opening Day is next week. Some teams have seen their fortunes greatly impacted with some recent catastrophic injuries. But more importantly…how does this affect your fantasy baseball team? So without further adieu, here is this week’s edition of the walking wounded.
It’s only been a few days since the last Injury Report and already, there’s a full list of players joining the ranks of MLB’s walking wounded. That doesn’t bode well for fantasy owners who are going to have to spend a significant amount of time sifting through the free agents on the waiver wire, looking for quality replacement candidates. Obviously, some players are lost for longer periods of time, but even the most minor of injuries needs to have your attention as you never know when something minor can grow to something major. Bumps, bruises, breaks, sprains, and setbacks, we’ve got ‘em all here. Let’s get to it…
We have an updates on starters around the league and potential closer opening just in time for those final drafts. A young gun in San Diego suffers a bump in the road while a cagey veteran finally gets some answers in Cincinnati. The Philles continue to rack up the injuries but that could open the door for a nice sleeper closer. The Rangers lose a starter for an extended peroid of time while Atlanta has nothing to worry about. All in this installment of the fantasy alarm injury report.
