C.J. Watson Headshot

Watson (Achilles) will not play Thursday against the Trail Blazers, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Watson continues to nurse a sore Achilles, which caused him to be removed from the Magic's final game before the All-Star break on Feb. 15. Even with more than a week off to recover, the pain is still persisting, so the veteran will be held out of action, meaning Elfrid Payton and D.J. Augustin could each pick up some extra run.

Steven Wright Headshot

Wright (shoulder) will pitch a live batting practice session sometime late next week, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

He suffered his shoulder injury in August and only pitched in two more games before missing the rest of the season. The knuckleballer sparkled last year with a 3.33 ERA in 156.2 innings but will be hard-pressed to repeat it. AL-only players should bid carefully, considering he still hasn't cemented a rotation job even if healthy.
11:13 am (EST)
Jonathan Drouin Headshot

Drouin (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision Thursday night, when the Lightning welcome the Flames to Amalie Arena.

Bolts coach Jon Cooper was the one to tell reporters that Drouin will be a game-time call, though it's not clear what is bothering the burgeoning pivot. He did play through an illness last Saturday -- he ended up snagging the game-winning goal versus the Avalanche that evening -- but we won't assume that the Quebec native is still under the weather. If you're thinking about rolling the dice on Drouin in daily formats Thursday, it'll be important to make sure he's spotted in pregame warmups.

Edinson Volquez Headshot

Volquez will get the start in the Marlins' first Grapefruit League game Saturday against the Cardinals, The Miami Herald reports.

He'll be followed on the mound by Tom Koehler. Volquez, a likely candidate to be the Marlins' Opening Day starter, is coming off a down season with the Royals that saw him post an unsightly 5.37 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, but has the most experience of any hurler in the Miami rotation and should benefit from the move to the NL East.
11:11 am (EST)
Danny Kristo Headshot

Kristo was traded to the Hurricanes, along with a second-round pick, in exchange for Ron Hainsey.

At one point, Kristo was seen as talented forward with 20-goal per season potential in the NHL, but his star his dimmed since then. Kristo was a second-round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, was a big part of Team USA's gold medal winning team at the 2010 World Junior Championship, and scored over a point per game over a 161 game career at the University of North Dakota. Since then, Kristo has played in the AHL level for four different franchises, tallying 153 points in 257 games. Don't expect Kristo to offer much from a fantasy standpoint if he ever receives a call to the big team.
11:07 am (EST)
Drew Pomeranz Headshot

Pomeranz (elbow) is scheduled to throw his first live batting practice exercise late next week, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

Pomeranz felt discomfort in his left throwing elbow near the end of the last season and soon after received a stem cell injection. This raised eyebrows, considering the Padres wound up in trouble with the league after failing to disclose the southpaw's full medical report when they traded him to Boston. Even with questions surrounding his health and how he'll hold up after his notable innings increase last year, Pomeranz remains an intriguing arm to own as a back-end fantasy starter in mixed leagues -- if he wins a spot in the rotation.
11:03 am (EST)
Aaron Blair Headshot

Blair feels that the slider he added to his arsenal late last season can become a true out pitch for him, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. "Developing that pitch was big for me at the end of the year, and hopefully it's big for me moving on," Blair said. "Throwing it [in live batting practice on Tuesday], I had a good feel for it. It was late [break] and I kept it down in the zone. That's pretty much all you can ask for."

His 10-strikeout performance against the Tigers in his final start of 2016 certainly offered a tantalizing glimpse of his potential, but the Braves' offseason pitching acquisitions all but ensure Blair will head back to Triple-A Gwinnett to begin the season. If he continues to refine his slider, however, he could be the first starter recalled if injuries hit the rotation, and he'll be an intriguing stash in keeper formats.
11:00 am (EST)
Travis Boyd Headshot

Boyd was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Thursday.

While he didn't end up making his NHL debut after the most recent call-up, Boyd remains an intriguing prospect for the Capitals. He's second on his minor-league team with 43 points (11 goals, 32 assists) in 53 games, so look for team brass to call his name if injuries start to threaten the big club down the middle.
11:00 am (EST)
Eduardo Rodriguez Headshot

Rodriguez (knee) will work his first live batting practice of spring Friday, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

Rodriguez continues to work his way back from the knee issue he suffered in December during Venezuelan winter ball. The Red Sox will bring him along conservatively, but barring any setbacks in camp or the World Baseball Classic, he should be ready for Opening Day. The next question: Will he break camp in the rotation?
10:56 am (EST)
Ron Hainsey Headshot

Hainsey was traded to the Penguins in exchange for a second-round pick and Danny Kristo on Thursday.

With Trevor Daley (knee) joining the mix of injured Penguins blueliners, it only made sense for the team to add another experienced defender as they look to defend their title in 2016-17. Hainsey is a 35-year-old veteran of 891 NHL games, though he has yet to make an appearance in the postseason. With 14 points in 56 games, Hainsey could offer some fantasy value in deeper leagues, though playing on a high-flying Penguins team could see his stock rise.
