Mike Mayers (R) Headshot

Mayers was called up to the majors from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.

Mayers made a spot start last July and was lit up for nine runs in 1.1 innings and also came up last season as a September callup. The right-hander impressed during spring training this season, and he was 5-6 with a 3.74 ERA in 14 starts (77 innings) this season with Memphis.

Chad Huffman (R) Headshot

Huffman was demoted Sunday to Triple-A Memphis.

Huffman saw limited playing time in the three weeks he spent in St. Louis, but went 4-for-14 with 15 plate appearances that almost all came in a pinch-hitting role. At this point in his career, the 32-year-old is likely not much more than organizational depth. Now, he will return to the minors, where he raked the previous two years with 21 home runs and 91 RBI in 165 games.

Jed Lowrie (B) Headshot

Lowrie (knee) came in to pinch hit during Sunday's contest, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Lowrie came in to bat in the seventh inning and smacked a double but was subsequently pulled for a pinch runner. This news comes as a surprise considering the team announced that he could be going to see a doctor Monday to get an examination on his knee sprain. For the time being, Lowrie should still be considered day-to-day with the A's having a scheduled off day coming Monday followed by a three-game set in Houston.

Kevin Siegrist (L) Headshot

Siegrist (back) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Siegrist's injury is being described as a "cervical spine strain" and the true length of his absence has yet to be determined. The left-hander had just picked up his first win of the season on June 20 and posted a 4.28 ERA over 31 appearances (27.1 innings).
4:33 pm (EST)
Aaron Hicks (B) Headshot

Hicks left Sunday's game with the Rangers due to right oblique tightness, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Hicks will have an MRI after checking out of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Austin Romine came in to the game and shifted over to first base while Mason Williams moved over center and Tyler Austin slid to right in his absence. If Hicks has to miss any time, Romine and Williams would likely be the biggest beneficiaries. He should be considered day-to-day until more information becomes present.

Dexter Fowler (B) Headshot

Fowler (quadriceps) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

After being absent from the Cardinals' lineup for the third time in four games, Fowler will head to the DL to deal with the issue. That gives outfielders Tommy Pham and the newly-recalled Randal Grichuk opportunities for playing time in Fowler's absence.
4:27 pm (EST)
Yadier Molina (R) Headshot

Molina is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Pirates, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Molina is absent from the Cardinals' lineup for the third-straight day now with what is presumably knee soreness. Eric Fryer will bat eighth and take over behind the dish once again for St. Louis.
4:23 pm (EST)
Dexter Fowler (B) Headshot

Fowler (quadriceps) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

This is now the third game out of the Cardinals' last four that Fowler has sat out with his nagging quad. It will be important to keep an eye on whether this is an injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time, or whether this is simply a maintenance day.
4:20 pm (EST)
Randal Grichuk (R) Headshot

Grichuk was officially promoted Sunday and is hitting cleanup, while playing left field, against the Pirates, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

After a demotion all the way down to High-A toward the end of May, Grichuk has finally found himself back in the good graces of St. Louis management. Clearly, he's impressed enough to earn a start in left field and bat cleanup in his first game back, which likely says something about his performance and improvement in the minors.
