Matt Carpenter Headshot

Matt Carpenter ran the bases and took batting practice before Sunday's game. Manager Mike Matheny told reporters he could go on a rehab assignment in the coming days.

Carpenter resumed some baseball activities on Friday and evidently has responded well. He shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated, so a return within the next week or so would seem to be a possibility. Carpenter has missed the last two and a half weeks with a right oblique strain.

Ross Stripling Headshot

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that the team will keep pitcher Ross Stripling in the bullpen and use him as the long man for the time being.

Stripling has appeared in nine games for the Dodgers in 2016, compiling a 4.53 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 34/18 K/BB ratio. He's expected to work in a long relief role for the Dodgers.

Kyler Kerbyson Headshot

The Patriots have signed free-agent tackle Kyler Kerbyson to a contract.

Kerbyson, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Tennessee a few months ago. This will be his first opportunity with an NFL team. He was a two-year starter in his college career and he started all 13 games at left tackle during his senior season. Before that, Kerbyson worked at both tackle positions as well as at left guard.

Vinnie Sunseri Headshot

The Patriots have signed safety Vinnie Sunseri to a contract.

Patriots have signed Sunseri, the fifth-rounder out of Alabama. Sunseri was selected by the New Orleans Saints in 2014. He appeared in nine games for New Orleans before being released by the Saints in April. He recorded five tackles (four on special teams, one on defense) before an arm injury landed him on injured reserve. A knee injury last year led the Saints to waive Sunseri and he spent all of last season on injured reserve after clearing waivers.

Derek Norris Headshot

According to a report the Padres are trying to move catcher Derek Norris by the trade deadline.

The Padres are pleased with what they've seen out of Christian Bethancourt. Austin Hedges is doing well in the minors this season, so it makes sense that they'd want to shop Norris. The 27-year-old has not been great hitting .204/.263/.379 this season and is getting more expensive in arbitration, but there will surely be some teams that view him as an upgrade at catcher. The Astros are rumored to have interest in Norris.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson Headshot

The Eagles have re-signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to a contract.

Bethel-Thompson didn't generate any interest after his release earlier this offseason. He'll provide a camp arm behind Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, and Carson Wentz.

Sam Dyson Headshot

Sam Dyson allows two hits in the ninth inning but manages to escape with his 20th save of the season against the Royals on Sunday.

Once again, he didn’t make it look pretty, but Dyson got the job done. The Texas faithful likely hold their breath every time he toes the rubber in a save opportunity because more often than not, someone reaches base. He isn’t a huge strikeout guy either, so he isn’t going to be a huge boost to your ratios. However, he is the guy getting saves, so he needs to be owned.

Delino DeShields Headshot

Delino DeShields went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base against the Royals on Sunday.

DeShields did it all today against the Kansas City Royals. He hit his third home run of the season, raised his batting average 12 points and stole his fifth base of the season. However, when he dooes play, he tends to hit near the bottom of the order, giving him less opportunities to maximize his fantasy potential. Leave him in free agency for the time being.

A.J. Griffin Headshot

A.J. Griffin allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings on Sunday against the Royals.

Griffin was dominant earlier in the season, but ever since returning from a rather lengthy DL stint, he hasn’t been the same pitcher. To be honest, he’s returned to the pitcher he had been in recent years. His ERA sits at 4.06 on the season and he’s better suited for usage in AL-only formats right now. He hasn’t pitched more than five innings since landing on the disabled list, so he doesn’t offer much upside right now. He will square off against these Royals on Friday in his next outing.
