Toronto's closer has not allowed a hit over the last 2 2/3 innings while striking out three and earning two saves over that time. He should be ready to go for this weekend's series against the Orioles.
Craig Kimbrel is continuing to work himself back from knee surgery on July 11th to repair cartilage in his left knee. He threw 20-pitches on Monday and the hope is that he can improve on that Wednesday. If all goes well, we could see him begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Saturday. The Red Sox are hopeful to get him back in Seattle on Monday. Brad Ziegler will continue to fill in at closer for now.
Actually the Nationals called up Wilmer Difo from Double-A Harrisburg as their primary back-up infielder Stephen Drew deals with vertigo-like symptoms. The 24-year-old Difo has batted just .255/.320/.343 in 96 games this season at Double-A. He will serve as depth in the infield until Drew returns.
Drew has been out of the Nationals lineup since July 19th with flu-like symptoms. We finally got more clarification on Drew experience vertigo and will need time to get himself right. The Nationals have recalled Wilmer Difo to take his spot on the active roster.
Baumann has looked great this season at the Triple-A level. He owns a 1.33 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 23/9 K/BB ratio in 20 1/3 innings. Baumann does not have much experience at the big league level, he has only faced one batter in his career.
The Red Sox are giving the red-hot Ramirez the day off on Wednesday. Boston will start Travis Shaw at first base and Aaron Hill will slide in at third base. Hanley is hitting a sweet .306/.411/.645 in the month of July.
