The MRI must have showed significant damage to this quad, as he has been placed on the 15-day DL. Darwin Barney will fill in at short on Saturday and hit eighth against the Red Sox.
A roster move was necessary with Chris Young coming off the DL on Saturday. Flynn was not particularly effective for the Royals, giving up four earned runs in seven and 1/3 innings, with a 6:4 K/BB ratio.
He pitched well enough in a simulated game to be activated from the DL. He will head to the bullpen, at least initially, with Danny Duffy currently filling the fifth rotation spot for the Royals.
No word out of Boston as to whether this puts him ahead of schedule in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. He was slated to join the Boston bullpen before his elbow injury jumped up and bit him. Currently, his is slated for a return to the majors in September, but that will depend on a variety of factors, including his rehab status and the Red Sox pitching needs as the season progresses.
It appears that he feels the torn ACL that cost him all of 2015 and ended his season in Week 6 of 2014 has fully healed. NFL teams will likely be skeptical that his knees can hold up to the stress imposed on running back. He may catch on with some team as insurance, but do not expect him back as a lead back in 2016.
With Duda out for an undisclosed period, the Mets will have to look at other options over Eric Campbell. Right now it is looking like James Loney may be the best fit so don't let it come as a surprise if the Mets are in talks with him at some point this week.
