Grégory Polanco (L) Headshot

Polanco is starting in right field and batting sixth Tuesday against the Rays.

Polanco has struggled mightily at the plate this month -- slashing just .185/.233/.272 in 18 games (81 at-bats) -- prompting manager Clint Hurdle to drop him a few spots in the batting order. Hurdle made a similar move with Andrew McCutchen earlier in the year and it worked wonders, so we'll see if Polanco is also able to benefit from the lineup shakeup.

Jed Lowrie (B) Headshot

Lowrie (knee) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.

It will be the third consecutive game Lowrie doesn't start, though he did record a pinch-hit RBI double Sunday. Regardless, it seems his minor knee sprain is continuing to act up, so Franklin Barreto will start at second base in his stead. It doesn't appear a DL stint will be necessary, so consider Lowrie day-to-day as the week progresses.

Jake Buchanan (R) Headshot

Buchanan was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday.

Buchanan was DFA'd for the second time in a month after struggling out of the Reds' bullpen; he allowed 13 runs on 24 hits with a 4:7 K:BB through 14.1 innings before being cut loose. He'll likely report back to Louisville if the Reds are able to pass him through waivers untouched.
4:36 pm (EST)
Leon Draisaitl Headshot

Draisaitl received a qualifying offer from the Oilers.

As if putting up 29 goals and 77 points in his first 82-game season, Draisaitl lit up the score sheet in the postseason with six goals and 16 points in 13 games. In addition, the 2014 first-round pick is invaluable on the power play, where he racked up 10 goals and 27 points last season. For the cherry on top, his shot percentage of 16.9 percent earned him five game-winning goals this past season. So yes, we get it, he's good. That means he'll be commanding big money as a restricted free agent, and all signs point to him being re-upped by Edmonton. The Oilers have the cap space to match whatever offers he receives, but keep in mind that Connor McDavid will be commanding even more money when he's a restricted free agent next summer as well.
4:33 pm (EST)
Danny Salazar (R) Headshot

Salazar (shoulder) threw between 30 and 35 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Indians' pitching coach Mickey Callaway said Salazar "looked really good," a positive sign towards the right-hander's overall recovery progress. The next step appears to be a bullpen session this coming Thursday, which should inch the 27-year-old closer to making a beginning a rehab assignment, if the team determines that is necessary.
4:29 pm (EST)
Austin Brice (R) Headshot

Brice was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Brice allowed five runs on nine hits over two innings in his last appearance, raising his ERA to 5.47 on the season and prompting the Reds to send him back to Louisville to work some things out. The move clears room on the active roster for Kevin Shackelford, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
4:22 pm (EST)
Carlos Beltrán (B) Headshot

Beltran is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the A's.

As has become a common theme this season, Beltran is getting a routine day off following a stretch of starting four straight games. The 40-year-old is still providing a source of offense at the plate, smashing four home runs this month, but his .239 average leaves something to be desired. Evan Gattis will take over as the DH.
4:20 pm (EST)
Josh Reddick (L) Headshot

Reddick is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's.

Reddick has been on a tear at the plate recently, batting .367 with a 1.023 OPS and two home runs over the past 15 games, but will head to the bench against Oakland southpaw Sean Manaea. Marwin Gonzalez will fill in as the left fielder.
4:17 pm (EST)
Manuel Margot (R) Headshot

Margot (calf) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Margot is back with the Padres after spending a month on the disabled list with a calf strain. He was able to complete a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso over the last week, clearing the way for him to return to major-league action. The 22-year-old, who was slashing .259/.305/.389 with four homers and five steals in 47 games before landing on the DL, should immediately reclaim his role as the Padres' starting center fielder.
4:16 pm (EST)
Dwight Smith Jr. (L) Headshot

Smith was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The 24-year-old slashed .391/.417/.435 over 23 at-bats during his second stint in the majors this season. Smith also struck out eight times, but overall filled in nicely with Ezequiel Carrera (foot) on the DL. The Blue Jays' outfielder is slashing .303/.364/.443 in 201 at-bats with Buffalo, and will likely have some more opportunities with the major-league club at a later point this season.
