J.D. Martínez (R) Headshot

Martinez (hand) underwent an MRI on Friday, which came back negative, Jack Magruder of FanRag Sports reports.

Although the hand contusion seemed like a minor injury for Martinez, these test results confirmed that he will not be out for long. He could make his return to the lineup for Saturday's game, but the Diamondbacks may choose to stress patience for their most recent acquisition. In his place, David Peralta earned the start in right field during Friday's series opener against Washington.

Matt Shoemaker (R) Headshot

Shoemaker (forearm) is going to play light catch Friday, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The injured right-hander had previously been shut down after receiving a cortisone injection earlier in the month, but he's finally feeling well enough to throw again. He still has a ways to go in his throwing program, so an early or mid-August return seems realistic in this case, although a firmer timetable should develop as he ramps up his throwing.

Nick Franklin (B) Headshot

Franklin is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The utility man's struggles at the plate followed him to Anaheim, as he's just 2-for-20 with his new ball club. That, paired with the fact that he's historically performed worse against left-handed pitchers (like Boston starter Chris Sale), spelled a clear bench day for Franklin, who will cede Friday's start to Cliff Pennington.

Ben Revere (L) Headshot

Revere is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Revere is expected to pick up the bulk of the playing time in left field while Cameron Maybin (knee) is sidelined, but with left-hander Chris Sale tossing for Boston, Revere will head to the bench for a night off. Shane Robinson will take over in left field to replace him.
6:28 pm (EST)
Joc Pederson (L) Headshot

Pederson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Braves, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Pederson will take a seat while the Dodgers face left-hander Jaime Garcia on Friday for the series opener. In his place, Enrique Hernandez draws the start in center while batting sixth.
6:28 pm (EST)
Luis Valbuena (L) Headshot

Valbuena is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Per usual, Valbuena will head to the bench with a left-handed starter on the bump for the opposition. C.J. Cron will log a start at first base in his stead.
6:26 pm (EST)
Jarrod Dyson (L) Headshot

Dyson is not in the lineup Friday against the Yankees, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Dyson has just one hit in the past seven games, and with left-hander CC Sabathia taking the hill for New York, it was an easy choice to send Dyson to the bench for a night off. Guillermo Heredia will replace him in center field for the evening.
6:24 pm (EST)
Kevin Kiermaier (L) Headshot

Kiermaier (hip) hopes to start a rehab assignment next week and return to the lineup when eligible on August 9, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Kiermaier started running and taking flyballs prior to Friday's contest, and it appears that he's confident that he'll be able to ramp things up quickly enough to get back into action at the earliest possible date. Time will tell whether this is a realistic timetable, but in the meantime, it's good to hear that his return is on the horizon.
