The Pace Factor in basketball is a measurement of how fast a team brings the ball up the court and, as a result of that, how many times they have a chance to score. A team with a high pace factor, which would be expressed in the high 90s, may or may not take more shots than one with a lower one, but the fact that a club does get the ball up the court quickly does give them the opportunity to shoot more often.
Pace and the Individual Player
Pace is often controlled by the point guard. It’s also a product of team philosophy. Although you’re drafting individual players for your fantasy team, their ability to score will be influenced by who their point man is and the coach’s ideas regarding run and gun versus setup for the open shot.
Pace and Offensive Rebounding
Pace can be a big deal if the club is good on the offensive boards. When considering pace you want to look for a team that plays at a quick pace and can create the second shot after the first miss.
Accuracy and Output
When going with a fantasy basketball player who is on a team with a high pace factor play someone who has solid accuracy. A high pace factor with a 40% shooter who is on a team that can grab rebbies in the offensive end is a much better investment than a low pace factor with a 40% shooter and low offensive rebounds. Use pace factor, which is a team and not an individual stat, as a guide when it comes to playing fantasy basketball and not as the only determining stat when it comes to your roster.
