Albert Suarez (R) Headshot

Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Suarez joins the major-league roster for the first time this season, adding length out of the bullpen with Steven Okert optioned down. The 27-year-old missed a significant stretch earlier in the year with a shoulder injury, but he's been solid since his return, posting an 11:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings (six appearances).

Dexter Fowler (B) Headshot

Fowler went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, a walk, a stolen base and a run in Friday's 11-4 win over the Cubs.

Fowler was a thorn in the side of his former Cubs mates throughout the afternoon, even swiping his fourth bag of the season while generating his third multi-hit effort of July. The veteran outfielder has only two extra-base hits during the month but has been able to largely maintain the improvement he'd demonstrated in June, as Friday's production brought his monthly line to a solid .275/.341/.375.

Steven Souza Jr. (R) Headshot

Souza (hip) is back in the starting lineup Saturday, leading off and playing right field, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Souza was held out of the starting nine for the past two games while nursing a sore hip, but came through with a pinch-hit single in Friday's contest. He'll look to pick up right where he left off on a terrific month, as the 28-year-old is slashing .321/.379/.679 with five home runs over his last 15 games.
2:27 pm (EST)
Paul Blackburn (R) Headshot

Blackburn (1-1) gave up four earned runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Mets. He also recorded a strikeout.

The rookie's most glaring mistake was the mammoth two-run home run he surrendered to Michael Conforto in the third. Blackburn was serviceable but somewhat on the inefficient side otherwise, throwing only 43 of 76 pitches for strikes. The 23-year-old has gotten into at least the sixth inning in all four of his starts -- with Friday's being his shortest thus far -- and he still sports a solid 2.88 ERA despite having next to no strikeout upside (nine whiffs over 25.0 innings). He'll look to secure his second victory when he faces the Blue Jays on the road next Wednesday.
2:25 pm (EST)
Brandon Crawford (L) Headshot

Crawford is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford will sit for the first time since June 28 as Eduardo Nunez shifts over to short and Conor Gillaspie mans the hot corner. While Crawford has multiple hits in two of his last three games, he's still batting just .217/.254/.400 for the month of July. He's taken a dramatic step back against right-handed pitching this season, with his OPS against righties falling nearly 180 points from a year ago.
2:22 pm (EST)
Jae-Gyun Hwang (R) Headshot

Hwang was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Hwang has struggled since being promoted to the big leagues, playing himself into a reserve role by hitting just .194 over his first 10 games and failing to really improve beyond that. He'll have a chance to see more everyday opportunities with Sacramento and could possibly see a late-season call-up. Orlando Calixte takes his spot on the roster in a corresponding move.
2:22 pm (EST)
Buster Posey (R) Headshot

Posey is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Giants have an early-afternoon start on the west coast and the team went into extras on Friday night, so it makes sense that Posey's on the bench. Nick Hundley will take over behind the plate and bat seventh against right-hander Luis Perdomo.
2:16 pm (EST)
Orlando Calixte (R) Headshot

Calixte will be recalled by the Giants on Saturday and is in the starting lineup, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

He went just 4-for-25 with 10 strikeouts in a promotion earlier this season, but will get another shot to prove himself as a replacement for the struggling Jae-Gyun Hwang, who was sent down in a corresponding move. Calixte's ability to play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield could give him plenty of opportunities -- especially with Austin Slater (hip) out for at least another month -- but he'll need to show improvement at the plate to earn an everyday role.
2:12 pm (EST)
Steven Okert (L) Headshot

Okert was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Okert threw 1.2 scoreless innings (34 pitches) in Friday's loss and would have been unavailable for a couple days, so the Giants decided to swap him out for a fresh arm. The lefty has struggled throughout most of the season, but he will likely be on the shuttle back to San Francisco the next time bullpen reinforcements are needed.
2:10 pm (EST)
Mike Montgomery (L) Headshot

Montgomery has been assigned to the bullpen, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

As expected, Montgomery was reassigned in anticipation of Kyle Hendricks' return from a hand injury. Montgomery finished his time in the rotation on a high note, throwing six innings of one-run ball in a win over the Braves on Wednesday. He figures to be the top candidate for spot starts or fill-in duty if there is another injury to the starting staff.
