FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Gerald Henderson tweeted he "should be back soon" from sprained left foot.

The 76ers are considering buying out JaVale McGee so he can sign with a contender.

Even the most staunch 76ers defenders have to wonder if they are ever going to try to actually win games. McGee has all of the physical gifts in the world, but that has never translated into quality basketball. He makes sense for Philadelphia as a high-upside gamble, but it is hard to imagine any contender giving him significant minutes. At this point, he doesn't belong on fantasy rosters no matter what jersey he wears. Analysis: Steve Pimental

When Reds manager Bryan Price was asked about Paul Maholm, Price made it sound like there's a good chance either Maholm or veteran right-hander Jason Marquis will be in the rotation if Homer Bailey isn't ready for the start of the season.

Maholm and Marquis have both have a lot of big league starts under their belts and could have NL-only value in the rotation. Marquis probably has a leg up on that competition, as the Reds could elect to use Maholm out of the bullpen. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Matt Cain was pleased with his live batting practice session Sunday.

It seems Cain is being largely ignored by fantasy players, but it was just two seasons ago he went 16-5 with a 2.79 ERA. He has a long way to go towards mixed league relevance, but this was a good step in the right direction. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Jimmy Nelson (hamstring) will throw live batting practice Sunday.

Nelson was unable to throw Thursday or Friday, so it is nice to see him back on the hill. He is one of the more popular pitching sleepers heading into the season though he will have to cut down on the walks that have caused problems for him at various minor league stops. Barring a setback, Nelson should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Mets are concerned about Juan Lagares' elbow. He will be monitored closely during spring training.

Lagares isn't much of a hitter, but he is probably the best defensive center fielder in the game, which keeps him on the field. He is a useful NL-only player, though an elbow injury would greatly cut into his value. If Lagares were to miss any time, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and John Mayberry Jr. would likely split his at-bats, with Curtis Granderson picking up more starts in center field. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Jordan Lyles will start the Rockies Cactus League opener Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Lyles is working on a new changeup, and starting the Cactus League opener will give him an opportunity to try it out in a game situation. Lyles was once a top prospect, and he has some intriguing upside if his changeup is actually effective. Fantasy players should keep a close eye on his Cactus League starts. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Goran Dragic (back spasms) is listed as questionable for Monday's game.

Mario Chalmers is averaging 12.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 3.8 assists in his last 10 games, and he should take on more of the point guard duties if Dragic is out. Henry Walker could get more shots as well. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Shin-Soo Choo says he's feeling no pain in his ankle or elbow this spring.

Injuries limited Choo to just 123 games in 2014 and likely affected his performance as well. Choo had his worst season since 2007, batting .242/.340/.374 and stealing just three bases in seven attempts. He is still a bit risky, especially against lefties, but if he is indeed healthy he has an excellent chance to bounce back in 2015. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Update: Amar'e Stoudemire he has no plans to retire after the season.

Stoudemire is just 32 years old though this is his 13th NBA season. Stoudemire is still effective on the floor, averaging 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds on .544 shooting from the field. He is still useful in deep fantasy leagues, and that should continue to be the case next season. Analysis: Steve Pimental

LeBron James sat out Friday's game, but the Cavaliers said the move was done to rest him. As a result, James is expected to play at the Rockets on Sunday.

Initially it was reported LeBron sat due to a back injury, so this is a welcome piece of news. LeBron is averaging 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.3 assists since the All-Star break, and his day off Friday should help him continue his strong play. Analysis: Steve Pimental

CF Coco Crisp (pinkeye) is back with the Athletics Sunday.

Coco Crisp is back with the team today, but will not participate in the intrasquad game and is expected to be held out of the first couple Cactus League exhibitions. The 13-year veteran saw his numbers take a dip across the board last season, as he hit for a .246 average while scoring 68 runs and swiping 19 bags. Crisp has eclipsed 135 games just one time in his five years with the A's, and you can expect see his name still available late in deeper league drafts - if you want to roll the dice on the 35-year-old. Analysis: Keith Tro

Angels Manager Mike Scioscia said Garrett Richards is about a week from being released by trainers to do everything.

Prior to rupturing a tendon in his left knee, Angels Starter Garret Richards went 13-4 with a 2.61 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 8.75 K/9 across 168.2 innings pitched. He recently tossed 25 pitches from the stretch and 25 from the windup during his fourth bullpen session of spring. Richards is gearing up to be ready for opening day, but it's likely the Angels want to take a more conservative approach. He has the potential to be a top ten fantasy starter, but his ADP is likely to fluctuate along with the rehabilitation news.  Analysis: Keith Tro

Kemba Walker (knee) will be evaluated on Wednesday.

Kemba Walker, 24, underwent a procedure to repair the meniscus in his left knee on Jan. 28th. He did some very simple running and shooting last week and is scheduled to be reevaluated on Wednesday, which will be exactly five weeks out from surgery. The initial timetable for Walker's return to action was no sooner than six weeks. If for some odd reason he was dismissed in your league, go scoop him up pronto. Walker is averaging 18.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists for the Hornets this season.  Analysis: Keith Tro

Neil Walker - better than you think.

Neil Walker is a pretty darn good hitter, even if most folks out there haven't seemed to notice much. Can the second sacker improve in 2015?
