Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored against the Rays on Friday

A-Rod is turning back the clock and just when you thought he was slowing down he makes everyone rethink themselves. He hit his 27th home run of the year and is now hitting an impressive .256 on the year. He has been the backbone of this Yankee team this year and one of their most consistent producers. Sitting only a half game back of the Blue Jays in the AL East, you know Rodriguez will try his best to boost this team into the playoffs.  Analysis: Dillon Conklin

Brian McCann went 1-for-1 with a home run, one RBI, two walks and three runs scored Friday against the Rays

McCann has had a bounce back year for the Yankees as has most of their veteran leaders on this team. With his home run on Friday he now has 24 on the year with 83 RBI. Other than Buster Posey, McCann could make the case for the most valuable fantasy catcher in the league. His .245 average may be a turn off to some but when you have the power numbers he does there is no denying you have to play him.  Analysis: Dillon Conklin

Andrew Miller picked up his 30th save of the year Friday against the Rays

Miller picked up his 30th save of the season in 31 tries Friday against the Rays. He has been one of the best relievers in all of baseball this year keeping his WHIP at 0.82 while keeping his ERA at an impressive 1.84. The combo of Betances and Miller will be hard to beat down the stretch.  Analysis: Dillon Conklin

Luis Severino allowed one run in seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings Friday against the Rays

Severino continued to impress on Friday as he pitched 6 1/3 innings only allowing one run. In six starts to begin his career, Severino has now allowed more than three runs while lasting at least five innings in each of his outings. He now sits at 3-2 with a 2.04 ERA. The most impressive part of Severino’s dominance early on is his ability to strikeout players as he has 34 over 35 1/3 innings.  Analysis: Dillon Conklin

Evan Longoria went 1-for-4 with a home run, one RBI and one run scored against the Yankees on Friday

Longoria continues to rake this season picking up a hit for the fifth consecutive game Friday and hitting a homer in his second consecutive. It is amazing what Longoria can do when healthy as he has now blasted 18 home runs while adding 62 RBI. His consistent production at third makes him one of the better value plays. Analysis: Dillon Conklin

Jake Odorizzi allowed five runs on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings Friday against the Yankees

Odorizzi didn’t have his best outing on Friday but was solid striking out eight over 6 2/3. In 23 starts this year, Odorizzi now has a 3.35 ERA with a 6-8 record. He missed some time earlier in the year but since returning has been one of the more consistent Rays starters. With another loss on Friday the Rays hopes for the playoffs are pretty much all but done unless they can get hot soon.  Analysis: Dillon Conklin

Robert Turbin (ankle) is expected to be waived with an injury designation.

This was a big blow to the Seahawks backfield depth as Turbin worked as the change-of-pace back for Marshawn Lynch and was his primary back-up. The expectation is that he could miss up to six weeks, so the Seahawks are just going to part ways now.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Matt Belisle threw a bullpen session Friday with no reported problems.

The Cardinals are hoping to send Belisle out on a rehab stint within the next few days and from there, re-evaluate and see if he is ready to return. The veteran right-hander has been on the DL since late June with elbow inflammation but his last exam with Dr. James Andrews went well and this first session was a positive one. He could be back in mid-September. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Royals are targeting next week for the return of Alex Rios and Kelvin Herrera.

Both players are returning from the chicken pox. Rios has been taking batting practice recently and Herrera has had a couple of successful bullpen sessions. They'll work on conditioning some more to help rebuild their stamina but both should be just fine upon their return. Analysis: Howard Bender

Nelson Cruz will need to sit the next few games in order to rest his injured quad.

Cruz suffered a strained quad Wednesday and apparently it's serious enough to knock him out for at least the rest of the weekend. He'll be re-evaluated after a few days, but the Mariners aren't likely to push him given his history with injuries. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Padres recalled relief pitcher Cory Mazzoni from Triple-A and placed him on the 60-day disabled list.

Just some clerical work here for the Padres as the ultimate goal is to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. No word yet on who the new arrival will be. Analysis: Howard Bender
