Cheslor Cuthbert suffered a mild quad contusion on Saturday.

This is encouraging for the youngster who is filling in for the injured Mike Moustakas. Cuthbert is slashing .254/.265/.343 on the year, to go along with a homer, three RBI, and figures to be a nice add in deeper leagues, since he figures to get most of the starts at third base. Monitor his status, if he does miss time because of the injury, it does not figure to be much.

Update: Salvador Perez has suffered a quad contusion.

Excellent news for Perez owners. As durable as he has been over the course of the last three seasons, it remains to be seen if this will cause him to miss time. If he does, Drew Butera will get the starts.

The White Sox and Padres have engaged in talks revolving around starting pitcher James Shields.

This would make sense as the White Sox are playing well, and the Padres do not appear to be going anywhere this season. With Mat Latos coming back down to earth, and Miguel Gonzalez underwhelming as the fifth starter, Shields would be a nice fit after Sale, Quintana and Rodon in the Sox rotation. The veteran has been his normal workhorse self this season with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP, to go along with 56 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. Shields does have a tendency to give up the longball over the course of his career, and would be leaving one of the most pitcher friendly ballparks in the league to go to one of the more hitter friendly, which is concerning for owners.

Pirates Kyle Lobstein has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

In 20.2 innings with the big club, Lobstein posted a 4.79 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. He is getting sent down to counter Tony Watson being activated from the paternity list. He offers you nothing in fantasy.

Pirates Tony Watson has been activated from the paternity list.

Watson has enjoyed a nice season so far in 2016, posting a 2.18 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and a 7.40 K/9. He has been a nice option for those in holds leagues as he has ten on the season. Insert him back into your lineup if you count on him.

Ben Zobrist was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the Cubs 4 - 1 win over the Phillies on Saturday.

Ben Zobrist extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a double on Saturday. He added a single later in the game and is now hitting over four hundred in May. Zobrist has been the Cubs hottest hitter this month and has solidified his role on the team and for fantasy. Currently, Zobrist is on pace for 21 home runs with seven steals as a Cub and will look to extend his streak on Sunday in a tough match-up with Vince Velasquez. After 45 games, Zobrist’s OPS is .985 and he now has 32 RBI this year.

Jason Heyward was 2-for-4 with a run, two doubles and an RBI in the Cubs 4 - 1 win over Philadelphia on Saturday.

To say Jason Heyward has been a disappointment this year is an understatement. His slugging percentage is lower than his on base percentage and Heyward’s two doubles on Saturday are one-fourth of his season’s total. Heyward has scored 22 runs as his manager has been patient with the struggling outfielder letting him hit second despite his poor start. He has one home run with six steals to start the year and will look to build on his two hit day, both for extra-bases.

Dexter Fowler was 1-for-4 with a solo home run (6) to lead-off the game in Chicago’s 4 - 1 win over the Phillies on Saturday.

Although it seems like Dexter Fowler has slowed down since his hot start to the season, he is still hitting just under three hundred in May. Fowler hit his sixth home run of the year on Saturday and now is hitting .316/.429/.540 after 46 games. He is presently on pace for a 21 home run and 21 stolen base season for the Cubs and is on track to score over 100 runs in back-to-back seasons barring an injury.
