Tracy Porter Headshot

Update: Tracy Porter left Saturday's game with an apparent head injury.

After forcing and recovering a fumble in the Bears last preseason game, and a week full of productive workouts, it's a bit of a concern, the the Bears most experienced defensve back, Tracy Porter went down hard after a collision in Saturday's preseason matchup with the Chiefs. Porter apparently came away with a head injury, and although the severity of the injury is not yet known, this is definitely cause for some concern. Porter is expected to be the starting corner opposite Kyle Fuller to start the season. He played in 14 games for Chicago last year with 12 pass defenses, an interception and a forced fumble.

Clayton Kershaw Headshot

Clayton Kershaw (back) will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.

With the Dodgers eyeing a wild card spot in the NL, All Star and LA ace Clayton Kershaw could loom large in September. He hasn't played since June 28th when he was placed on the DL with a back injury. However before he did, he seemed well on his way to a Cy Young award with an astonishing 11-2 record, 1.79 ERA and 16-1 strikeout to walk ratio. On Friday he had a 60 pitch bullpen session, that he came out of feeling well and without any setbacks. On Tuesday he is scheduled to throw his first simulated game, and if things go well from there, it's entirely possible we will see the pitcher nobody wants to face, take the mound in September.

Scott Van Slyke Headshot

Scott Van Slyke will miss the rest of the season due to wrist surgery.

After being placed on the 15 day DL on August 8th with a wrist injury, Dodgers pitcher Scott Van Slyke made little improvement in his rehab, and on Thursday was placed on the 60 day DL which effectively closed the door on him for the rest of the regular season. On Saturday, Van Slyke opted to go for wrist surgery, which put any potential of a post season appearance to bed. Van Slyke struggled this season with .606 OPS in 52 games this season. While he probably wouldn';t command much in arbitration, the Dodgers will probably opt to non tender him and move on.

Matt Hazel Headshot

Dolphins have released Matt Hazel on Saturday.

After a solid start to the preseason, including a 51 yard TD reception in the week one game against the Giants, it appears that WR Matt Hazel's time with the Miami Dolphins has come to an end, as he was released on Saturday. Hazel who was in his third training with the Dolphins since being drafted in 2014, never really had an opportunity to shine with Miami. He will now navigate the waters of the waiver wire, and see if he draws any interest from other teams.
