Workman was sent down to make room for David Price (elbow), who will make his season debut Monday against the White Sox. He didn't see any action with the big club since being called up on May 21 and will return to Pawtucket, where he's compiled a 1.98 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings this season.
Eflin was torched at home by the Reds to the tune of seven earned runs on nine hits -- including four long balls -- over five innings Sunday. Considering the 23-year-old is now 0-3 with a bloated 6.13 ERA and 11 homers allowed in 47 innings (eight starts), the team has decided to send him down to get his game straightened out. Eflin's replacement in the rotation has not yet been announced.
Dellin Betances threw 24 pitches over 1.2 innings to finish off Oakland on Saturday, but the Yankees didn't wind up needing him Sunday. Warren recorded the final out in the top of the eighth, and the Yankees stretched their two-run advantage to four in the bottom half. Warren remained on the hill in the ninth to lock down the four-run victory. He sports a serviceable 2.73 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 7.9 K/9, but he probably won't pitch in enough late-game situations to provide many chances to earn wins or saves going forward.
This was just the third round tripper through the past 20 games for Judge, as he's beginning to cool off after his torrid early-season pace. However, he went 22-for-71 (.310 batting average) during that 20-game stretch to continue moving the fantasy needle. There are likely to be more peaks and valleys over the coming months, but Judge's playing time isn't in jeopardy at this point, so he should power his way out of any slumps in short order.
X-rays on Trout's thumb came back negative, which is good news, but the results of an MRI will indicate how severe of a sprain he's dealing with. As such, the star center fielder's timetable for returning to action remains unclear until the team releases news from the test. Look for an update on Trout prior to the start of Monday night's series opener against the Braves.
The slugger is turning in another solid three-category season with 15 homers, 31 RBI and 28 runs. Davis isn't going to help in batting average (.227) and has just a single stolen base, but his power upside and placement in the middle of the lineup will keep his fantasy value high.
A few timely errors led to five unearned runs and a loss for Triggs. The Yankees are the highest-scoring team in the American League, so giving them additional chances won't often end well. Triggs has now lost consecutive games after allowing five earned runs to the Red Sox last Sunday. Overall it's been a solid start to 2017, as he's posted a 3.39 FIP and 1.14 WHIP for the season, which highlights that there's some sustainability to his sterling 2.64 ERA. Still, it isn't out of the question to fade the youngster against daunting opponents. His upcoming date with the Nationals likely qualifies.
It was just the second start all season in which Pineda didn't allow a home run, and if he can continue to limit the long ball, the 28-year-old righty should keep piling up wins. The Yankees are the highest-scoring team in the American League, and Pineda's 10.0 K/9 and 50.9 percent groundball rate have paved the way to a 3.32 ERA. He lines up to face Toronto at the Rogers Centre in his next trip to the hill.
The outfielder has started the last 14 games but has gone just 2-for-14 over his last three, so manager Terry Collins has opted to give him a rest. Conforto's spot in left field will be taken over by Curtis Granderson in the evening contest against the Bucs, and Juan Lagares will enter the lineup in center.
