Oh great, another DFS strategy column, just what the Internet needs. But here’s the deal. This one is going to be different. Why? Because it’s the only one written by me!

Three times a week (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) yours truly will be tendering somewhere between 500 and 1000 unique, compelling, sage, entertaining and hopefully profitable words of DFS strategy.

If you want strong plays or value picks, you’ll need to look elsewhere (though if you look hard enough, you’ll find some from me). This space will be dedicated to the thought processes involved for you to make your own decisions.

Here comes the real reason why this column will be different than others. Not only will I give you the reason, I’ll give you the reason supporting the reason. And by support, I don’t mean “because I say so”, which is unfortunately the implied reason offered by many of my industry brethren. I will always cite research that back my claim. Sometimes this will be personal research but quite often I’ll reference work of others.

By means of background, I’m a scientist by trade. I spent the first 25 of my post-college life in science, either academically or professionally. I’ve got an advanced degree in Chemistry. I don’t share this is a not-so-subtle #humblebrag but rather as a means to give you an idea of where I’m coming from when it comes to making decisions. I want proof. I don’t do things “just because”. I do things because there is salient evidence that the process is sound.

And now for the best part. I learned a long time ago that the best approach for this sort of thing isn’t “I’m right and you’re wrong” but rather, “here’s the data and here’s my conclusion.” In the end, you won’t be agreeing or disagreeing with my advice but instead believing or not believing the reason. If you give me truth serum or wrap Wonder Woman’s truth lasso around me I’ll no doubt contend I’m right and you’re wrong, but the manner the information will be presented will allow you to form your own opinion. After all, it’s not my team you’re entering into the contests; it’s YOURS.

While the tone of the column will be directed to the inexperienced DFS player, there will different ways of looking at things that even the most experienced DFS player will glean a nugget or two.

This is actually going to be the biggest challenge – appealing to the HUGE cross-section of DFS players. This game can be played on so many different levels. You can play strictly for fun. You can play with the intent on winning some money but it’s more like fun money. You win, you splurge a little. Or you can play with the intent of making DFS a significant revenue stream.

As we’ll learn over the coming days and weeks, there is a common thread for any level of playing and that’s the “knowing baseball” aspect. The elements that delineate the casual player from the grinder have more to do with bankroll management, probability and risk. If you’re an advanced player, don’t fret, I’ll most definitely delve into this area; the column won’t be completely targeted to the newer audience.

Those that are familiar with my work know I love to follow it up with comments and discussion so please don’t hesitate to share your opinion, tell me I’m off my rocker or ask a question germane to the topic in the comment section at the end of each column. I promise I’ll respond to each and every comment (with the exception of those asking for generic advice not pertinent to the topic).

On a personal level, I’d like to thank Fantasy Alarm for this opportunity. I’ve been dabbling in the DFS arena for a couple of years and have developed quite a passion for it. I appreciate the responsibility of being the Fantasy Alarm’s go-to strategy guy at a time when the sector is growing and some very smart people are getting involved, not to mention those that have already made their mark. But, I’d like to think I can hang with them so if you hang with me, I promise we’ll make some money together.

Do we have a deal?
