It’s fantasy football playoff time as we head into Week 14.  After a grueling season filled with lots of injuries, your fantasy lineup may not look like you had envisioned when you drafted back in the summer.  All that matters is that you are still alive and hopefully you have the roster depth to overcome the injuries we are dealing with this week.  So without further ado, here is the next edition of the fantasy football walking wounded.

Julio Jones (WR-ATL)

Jones is dealing with turf toe which raises a major red flag for his status in Week 14.  At this point the Falcons expect that Jones will likely be limited in practice but be ready to play against the Rams on Sunday.  He sat out quite a few snaps towards the end of last week’s game against Kansas City so there is legitimate reason to be concerned about this.  Right now it appears that he will suit up but this is a situation you need to monitor throughout the week because Jones is obviously a fantasy game-changer.

Doug Martin (RB-TB)

Martin missed some time at the end of Tampa Bay’s game last Sunday with a back injury but he is expected to be fine for Week 14 against the Saints.  Martin missed several games earlier with a hamstring injury so he is already fragile.  However, Tampa Bay now controls its own playoff destiny and they have a favorable matchup against New Orleans so look for them to utilize Martin as much as they can.  That being said, you may want to handcuff him this week with Jacquizz Rodgers and/or Charles Sims who are both back and would see a majority of snaps if Martin is still bothered by the injury.

Jordan Reed (TE-WAS)

Reed has been out since Thanksgiving when he separated his shoulder and it is unknown whether he will be able to come back this Sunday against Philadelphia.  He has not practiced at all so fantasy GMs should prepare to be without him again.  Reed is an elite tight end option but has always had trouble staying healthy.  Vernon Davis would take his place again and is a borderline TE1 option.

Adrian Peterson (RB-MIN)

The Vikings have seen their season plummet out of control since a 5-0 start and now they are fighting for their playoff lives.  An enormous reason for their freefall was losing Adrian Peterson to a knee injury which required surgery a couple months ago.  He is getting closer to possibly returning, but it will not be this week against Jacksonville which is unfortunate.  The earliest he would likely return is Week 15, but there are no assurances of that.  Peterson remains a viable option to stash if you can afford the bench slot during your league’s playoffs.

Jamison Crowder (WR-WAS)

Crowder suffered a hip injury during the Redskins loss to Arizona last Sunday.  It seems as though he played through whatever he sustained so his status should not be in jeopardy this coming week against the Eagles.  Crowder has been a very productive fantasy option with 58 catches for 767 yards and seven touchdowns.  He should continue that trend against Philadelphia in Week 14, especially if Jordan Reed is unable to return.

Jeremy Maclin (WR-KC)

Maclin is prepared to return this Thursday night against Oakland after missing the past four games with a groin injury.  He was a full participant in practice on Tuesday and steps back onto the field in a huge prime time game to help determine the fate of the AFC West.  Maclin will likely take a back seat to Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill who have stepped up in his absence, so lower your expectations if you are planning on putting him in your lineup as a WR3 or Flex option in deep leagues.

Shane Vereen (RB-NYG)

Vereen has returned to practice after missing the past couple months with a triceps injury.  He is likely going to play this Sunday night against Dallas which makes him a viable fantasy option in PPR leagues because he has always been one of the better pass-catching running backs in the league.  The long layoff is a concern but Eli Manning will likely target Vereen quite frequently due to their horrendous running game and the need to control the ball with short passes.

Trevor Siemian (QB-DEN)

Siemian is out of his walking boot and the Broncos seem hopeful that he will be able to play this week against Tennessee.  He has been solid but unspectacular in 2016 providing more NFL value than fantasy value.  However, he is clearly a better option than Paxton Lynch so whether Siemian plays will have a significant effect on other Broncos players you are considering putting in your starting lineup for Week 14.

Ryan Mathews (RB-PHI)

Mathews is on track to return to practice after missing the past couple games with a knee injury.  There is no assurance that he will play on Sunday against Washington but you would expect that he will be on the field if there are no setbacks the rest of the week.  Mathews would be a RB2 option if he can play but for now he is listed as questionable so follow up for further updates later in the week.

Earl Thomas (S-SEA)

Thomas suffered a broken leg on Sunday night and will miss the rest of the season.  While this will have an effect in IDP leagues, it doesn’t diminish the value of Seattle’s great defense as a D/ST option in most standard leagues.  Thomas was a huge part of their dominant defense but even his absence doesn’t change the evaluation of offensive players matching up against the Seahawks.
