It has been a brutal first few weeks of the season in terms of injuries.  Fantasy GMs have had to scramble at lightning speed to find replacements after only a couple games which has wreaked havoc on rosters.  So without further ado, here is the next edition of the fantasy football walking wounded.

Julio Jones (WR-ATL)

Jones missed practice on Thursday nursing a calf injury but his status for Monday’s game against the Saints does not appear to be in doubt.  He does have an injury history so there is inherent concern about him any time he misses practice, but he remains a must-start with a very favorable matchup against a terrible New Orleans defense.

Brandon Marshall (WR-NYJ)

Marshall did not practice again on Thursday as he is dealing with both knee and foot injuries.  We probably won’t know until Sunday whether he will be ready to play, but at this point you should prepare as if he will not.  Marshall is an elite receiver in a Jets offense that is coming off a huge game, so he would be a significant loss if he is ruled out.  Quincy Enunwa would likely assume an even bigger role in Marshall’s absence which would increase his value that has already skyrocketed over the first couple weeks.

Sammy Watkins (WR-BUF)

Watkins continues to frustrate fantasy GMs as his status for Week 3 against Arizona is up in the air.  He is still dealing with a foot injury that hast cost him a couple days at practice this week so there is legitimate concern he may not be able to take the field.  Watkins has been underwhelming through two games with just six catches for 63 yards.  He is not a great fantasy option this week even if he suits up against a formidable Arizona secondary.

Willie Snead (WR-NO)

Snead missed practice on Thursday with a toe injury but he will have an extra day to be ready to take the field on Monday night against Atlanta.  Snead has emerged as a solid WR2 as Drew Brees’ second receiver behind Brandin Cooks.  He has provided great fantasy production with with 14 receptions for 226 yards and two touchdowns through the first two games.

Donte Moncrief (WR-IND)

It turns out Moncrief suffered a fractured scapula and will miss four to six weeks.  He does not need surgery so he will be back at some point.  Phillip Dorsett will officially be the Colts number two receiver which makes him a solid WR3 or Flex option for fantasy lineups in Week 3.

Corey Coleman (WR-CLE)

There is not much to be optimistic about with the Browns, especially from a fantasy perspective.  However, things just keep getting worse after rookie Corey Coleman broke his hand in practice and will likely miss four to six weeks.  The good news is that he does not need surgery, but this is a big blow to fantasy GMs who have gotten great value from Coleman thus far with seven catches for 173 and two touchdowns through the first two weeks.

Jonathan Stewart (RB-CAR)

We knew that Stewart was probably going to miss Week 3 against Minnesota but now it seems that he will be out at least a couple weeks.  Stewart is dealing with a hamstring injury which is always tricky to handle because it usually takes several weeks to heal and recover before getting back on the field.  The Panthers will try to patch things together with their running game which will be a tall order against a solid Vikings defense.

Jay Cutler (QB-CHI)

Much maligned quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a thumb injury during the Bears horrendous loss to the Eagles last Monday night.  It was initially expected that he would miss two to three weeks with the injury, but he is apparently trying to convince John Fox that he can play on Sunday night against Seattle.  While he has not officially been ruled out, do not expect Cutler to play.  It will be Brian Hoyer taking the snaps in Cutler’s absence and he should only be a fantasy consideration if you are desperate for a replacement in a two-quarterback league.

Ameer Abdullah (RB-DET)

Abdullah did require surgery on his foot and has been placed on injured reserve which means he will miss at least eight weeks.  The Lions will go with Theo Riddick and rookie Dwayne Washington to fill the void so they are both viable waiver wire options if you need to replace Abdullah.  Only stash him if you have roster flexibility or an IR slot to put him in.

DeSean Jackson (WR-WAS)

Jackson has been slowed this week by lower leg injuries but he did return to practice on Thursday.  He will be tested on Friday to make sure he is good to go against the Giants this Sunday.  While the Giants defense has played extremely well thus far, Jackson always seems to be at his best against New York so he is a solid fantasy option assuming he is able to take the field.
