Greetings and salutations fantasy baseball players and I hope you had a wonderful Star Wars Day on May the 4th.  The Force was not strong in some players who have landed on the disabled list so they will have plenty of time to hit the bars and get their drink on for Cinco de Mayo. Without any further ado, here is the next edition of the walking wounded.

Jason Heyward (OF-CHC)

The Cubs' incredible success thus far has helped mask the awful start that Heyward has gotten off to batting just .211 without any home runs through his first 23 games.  He has missed the past three games with a right wrist injury that recently reared its ugly head.  Right now he is considered day-to-day but the Cubs may decide to shut him down and place him on the disabled list retroactive to Monday.  They are clearly doing just fine without much contribution from him, so it makes sense to DL him if the pain still persists.

Devin Mesoraco (C-CIN)

The nightmare continues for Mesoraco who was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.  He missed most of 2015 with a hip injury which required surgery, and now it seems inevitable that his 2016 season will be lost as well.  Mesoraco indicated that he wants to play through the injury and return this year, but the Reds will likely shut him down and not let him run the risk of making the injury worse.  He can be dropped in all leagues.

Alex Rodriguez (DH-NYY)

A-Rod left Tuesday’s game after straining his hamstring and was subsequently placed on the disabled list.  We should expect that Rodriguez will be out for more than two weeks given the fact he is 40 years old and will take longer to recover from such an injury.  He was just starting to heat up so the timing of the injury is frustrating, but the fact remains that he is merely a utility option in deeper leagues.

Zach Britton (RP-BAL)

Britton suffered a sprained ankle last weekend when he was trying to field a bunt and has been rested ever since.  He did throw a bullpen session on Wednesday and reported no issues, so he should be back very shortly.  Britton is one of the better closer options in the league with six saves thus far and a microscopic 0.80 WHIP through his first 11 appearances.  However, if the Orioles decide to be more conservative with his return then expect Darren O’Day to get save opportunities in his absence.

Domingo Santana (OF-MIL)

The Brewers' young outfielder was taken out of the lineup on Wednesday due to soreness in his shoulder.  The injury appears to have been lingering for several days but he is considered day-to-day and is not expected to miss much time.  Santana has not shown much plate discipline through his first 89 at bats and has only proven to be an OF4 or OF5 in standard leagues thus far.  However, he will be given every opportunity to establish himself so he could be a player to be patient with if you have the roster flexibility.

Steven Souza (OF-TB)

Souza left Wednesday’s game with spasms in his pectoral muscle a few innings after hitting a home run.  He has shown a solid amount of power through the first month of the season but has an alarming strikeout rate demonstrating his lack of plate discipline.  Tampa Bay does not feel the injury is serious so an extended absence is not expected.  He may need a day or two off depending on the severity of the spasm, but expect him back in the lineup by the weekend.

Jean Segura (2B-ARZ)

Diamondbacks second baseman Jean Segura has gotten off to an incredible start to the season batting .339 with four home runs and four stolen bases thus far.  However, he has missed three of the past four games with a hip injury that seems more nagging than serious.  Arizona will want to be cautious with Segura since hip injuries can lead to other injuries due to overcompensating for the discomfort.  The good news is that he made a pinch hit appearance on Wednesday and got a base hit, so he should be in line to return to the field shortly.

Pablo Sandoval (3B-BOS)

Kung Fu Panda is done for the season and had no business being on your fantasy roster in the first place.  ‘Nuff said.
