With fantasy baseball winding down and fantasy football heating up, this will be the final edition of the injury report for the baseball season.  It has been a tumultuous year for owners with so many injuries to prominent players, but everyone is equally susceptible.  Then again, I wouldn’t keep so busy if it wasn’t for all of the injuries that happen every week.  So without further adieu, here is the last installment of the walking wounded for baseball in 2015.

Aroldis Chapman (RP-CIN)

Chapman hasn’t pitched in several days because of a sore shoulder but was likely available on Sunday if necessary.  He is an elite fantasy closer with spectacular peripheral statistics despite only having 24 saves.  It is good news that he should be back in a game once a save situation presents itself.  Put him in your lineup this week without hesitation.

Mark Teixeira (1B-NYY)

Fantasy owners were screwed this past week with Teixeira remaining out of the lineup and not even placed on the disabled list to allow for a roster transaction.  He was supposed to take batting practice this weekend but still was experiencing too much pain to do that or run on his injured shin.  The Yankees think he can be back within a couple days so put him in your lineup at your own risk this week.

Hunter Pence (OF-SF)

It has been one injury after another for Pence who is now back on the disabled list with an oblique injury.  Pence is normally one of the most consistent fantasy performers but he has been limited to only 52 games this year.  The Giants just acquired Marlon Byrd to help fill the void which is a strong indicator that Pence will miss more than a couple weeks recovering.  Stash him on the DL if you have the space and if your league runs to the end of the MLB season.

Lucas Duda (1B-NYM)

Duda came out of Friday’s game after re-aggravating his back injury and is now on the disabled list.  He is being sent to the doctor that diagnosed David Wright with spinal stenosis so this could be a serious injury.  Duda has been an inconsistent fantasy performer this season with two hot streaks and a lot of slumps.  Check back in early this week for the test results but don’t plan on having Duda available much down the stretch.

Billy Hamilton (OF-CIN)

Hamilton sustained a sprained capsule in his right shoulder last week and is now on the disabled list for an undisclosed amount of time.  The Reds don’t have much to play for the rest of the way so it is possible Hamilton could be shut down for the rest of the season.  He is obviously very valuable for his stolen bases but Hamilton does not provide much value anywhere else.  It will be near impossible to replace his stolen bases.

Addison Russell (SS-CHC)

Russell has struggled for most of his rookie season but really started picking up the pace over the past couple weeks.  He was forced out of Sunday’s game with a groin injury that does not appear to be serious at this point.  The Cubs will likely be cautious with Russell because they can plug Starlin Castro back in the lineup at shortstop.  Castro has been incredibly disappointing so he isn’t much of an alternative.

Daniel Norris (SP-DET)

Rookie Daniel Norris was the centerpiece of the blockbuster trade that sent David Price to Toronto.  After making a couple starts for the Tigers, Norris suffered an oblique injury which will likely cost him up to a month.  He should be back and pitch again before the end of the season, but he does not have much fantasy value for the rest of 2015.

C.C. Sabathia (SP-NYY)

Sabathia is no longer much of a fantasy option but he was a fixture in the Yankees rotation all season.  Now he is likely going to end up on the disabled list with a knee injury which could be considered serious.  Sabathia has previously had surgery on his knee and it cannot help to be carrying all that weight on his legs.  You can safely drop him from your rosters.

Yunel Escobar (SS/3B-WAS)

Escobar suffered a neck injury crashing into a fan last Friday while trying to catch a foul pop-up.  He missed both games over the weekend but he is expected back in the lineup on Tuesday.  Escobar has been a great waiver wire acquisition all season batting over .300 and eligible at multiple positions.  Check in on Tuesday and make sure he is cleared to return.
