The first half of the 2015 season is now in the books.  It has been a tumultuous season thus far with numerous significant injuries wreaking havoc on your fantasy baseball teams.  Hopefully the All Star break will give your players the time they need to heal, or give you the time you need to negotiate a deal.  So without further adieu, here is the next installment of the walking wounded.

Dee Gordon (2B-MIA)

Fantasy owners may have dodged a big bullet after it was revealed that Gordon may be back as soon as the second half begins.  He dislocated his thumb when sliding into first base which goes against everything we were taught in Little League.  Gordon has provided elite production all season with a .338 batting average, 46 runs scored and 33 stolen bases.  The injury cost him a chance at playing in the All Star game, but fortunately it shouldn’t cost him any games that matter for fantasy owners.

Jason Grilli (RP-ATL)

After the Braves traded Craig Kimbrel just before Opening Day, Jason Grilli re-emerged as a valuable fantasy commodity racking up 24 saves with solid peripheral numbers.  Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Grilli is now done for the season after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon when covering first base over the weekend.  Grilli can be dropped in all leagues and Jim Johnson once again gains fantasy relevance as his successor.

Denard Span (OF-WAS)

Span has been in an out of the lineup all season and ends the first half on the disabled list once again.  He is dealing with a back injury which does not appear to be very serious as the Nationals think he will be back once eligible.  When healthy, Span is a solid source for batting average, runs scored and stolen bases.  However, the problem is that he is seldom healthy and has been limited to just 59 games.  He could be a great buy-low option in the second if he can stay healthy and set the table for a Washington lineup that should get Jayson Werth, Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman back.

Clay Buchholz (SP-BOS)

There are some players who simply cannot go through a whole season without an injury.  Clay Buchholz is at or near the top of the list.  After getting off to a disastrous start to the season, Buchholz was dominant since the middle of June and re-established his fantasy value after having an incredibly low average draft value heading into 2015.  However, he was removed from his last start against the Yankees and was subsequently placed on the disabled list with a right flexor strain.  There is no structural damage so it is possible he could be back shortly after the All Star break.  Check back in for further updates during the break

Miguel Montero (C-CHC)

Montero has been a disappointment this year after getting traded to the Cubs.  He is currently dealing with a thumb injury which could land him on the disabled list depending on the pending results of an MRI.  Montero has provided some power this year with ten home runs, but he is only batting .230.  Check back in during the All Star break for a further update on his status.

Asdrubal Cabrera (SS-TB)

Rays shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera sustained a strained hamstring and was placed on the disabled list.  Cabrera has been utterly useless from a fantasy perspective despite having eligibility at both middle infield positions.  Look for Tim Beckham to get another crack at playing time while Cabrera is out.
