As we hit the last weekend of June, the fantasy baseball season is heating up.  Week 13 is almost over and yet the injuries continue to pile up.  This sounds like a broken record already.  But fear not, we have you covered in the latest edition of the walking wounded.

David Wright (3B-NYM)

David Wright headed back to New York for an MRI on his left shoulder and is missing his second straight game on Saturday.  Wright claims that he is healthy, but obviously the Mets feel differently.  He only has six home runs which is well off of his normal pace even while playing most of his games at Citi Field.  Wright is the heart and soul of the Mets lineup, but his numbers do not correlate to comparable fantasy significance.  He is clearly a must-start, but if he misses a few games you should be able to make up the difference with a temporary replacement.

Jose Bautista (OF-TOR)

We should have known better that Jose Bautista wouldn’t be back within a day or two of coming down with a hamstring injury. The latest update projects him returning by Tuesday during Week 14.  He has missed this entire week which did not help weekly fantasy GM’s (myself included).  Bautista is an elite player with tremendous production across the board.  But we cannot deny how fragile he is and it is annual occurrence for him to miss time with various injuries.  Hey, at least his wrists seem to be holding up so far.

Hanley Ramirez (SS-LAD)

The positive development is that an MRI did not reveal any structural damage to Hanley Ramirez’s right shoulder.  But he is still sidelined until the pain subsides to the point where he can get back on the field, swing a bat, and throw a ball.  Ramirez is also an elite player who is a must-start, but his status for Week 14 is still unclear.  The Dodgers will want to be cautious, especially dealing with an injury to Ramirez’s throwing shoulder.  Keep a close eye for any new reports on his status before setting your lineups next week.

Nolan Arenado (3B-COL)

Good news fantasy GM’s…the Rockies are expediting Nolan Arenado’s return by light years as he is starting his rehab games this weekend.  Arenado went down with a broken finger at the end of May and was expected to miss up to two months.  Now it looks like he should be back within the week, so get ready to put him back in your lineup.  Personally, I am very much looking forward to having him back in one of my leagues where Kelly Johnson and Eduardo Escobar have been filling in catastrophically.

Starling Marte (OF-PIT)

Starling Marte sustained a jammed finger on his right hand several days ago which has kept him out of the Pirates’ lineup since Tuesday.  He did appear as a pinch runner on Friday, but it still remains unclear whether Marte will be back in the lineup.  Marte has been a disappointment this season despite having 18 stolen bases.  His strikeout ratio leaves a lot to be desired, but he is still one third of arguably the most talented outfield in baseball.

Evan Gattis (C-ATL)

Evan Gattis had to leave Friday’s game with back spasms and he is also out of the lineup on Saturday.  Gattis has established himself as one of the best offensive catchers in baseball with a .290 batting average along with 16 home runs and 39 RBI.  Hopefully his back spasms will subside and he can return to the lineup sooner than later.  With such limited catching options, the loss of Gattis for an extended period of time could be disastrous for fantasy GM’s.

Dallas Keuchel (SP-HOU)

Dallas Keuchel was scratched from his start on Saturday due to inflammation in his left wrist.  The Astros left-handed pitcher has been one of the biggest surprises of the year compiling an 8-5 record with an impressive 2.77 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 83 strikeouts in 103.2 innings.  The extent of Keuchel’s injury is unknown at this time, so be wary before putting him in your Week 14 lineup.
