If you aspire to succeed at anything in life, you set a goal and, in some cases, you actually achieve that goal and your life is one small step closer to being fulfilled.

For most of us, we set goals, but do not even attempt to achieve them. And that brings me to you on this fine subject of the transparency of the fantasy analyst.

Donald Trump says he is going to build a wall.

My wife says she is going to be on time.

Your favorite fantasy analyst says he is going to draft a certain player.

If we’re lucky (you and me) two of these things will happen. Honestly, the likelihood is probably not. That’s the state of affairs we live in today. No not politics, the fantasyland most analysts live in.

You see, what I’ve learned hosting a Satellite Radio show every day is that we have this microphone, and it just sits there. We give life to it by making statements we either believe to be true or at least do an admirable job of pretending. If by chance we actually say something that resonates, Ive learned there is actually a chance that in fantasy, you just may take the advice. So how can I, or anyone else, stand on my soapbox for two hours a day without actually using my own ?

So here I am in one of the four drafts I’ve done and I have been saying “Aledmys Diaz is my favorite shortstop in the National League.” How do I then with Diaz on the board, pivot and take someone with similar skill and just ignore my own advice for the past two months ?

How can I come back on the air, or write an analysis column just basically ignoring the fact that I’ve told you to take “Player A” and when given the equal opportunity “DID NOT"

Too often I read, hear and see this and wonder who is actually building their own wall ? I mean, what is the point of giving fantasy advice if you don’t take your own ?

So naturally with my wife running late I went back and looked at my short list of “must have” fantasy baseball players in 2017 and found, HEY ! I actually did take a few of these guys often.

Gerrit Cole
Jacob deGrom
Aledmys Diaz
Travis Jankowski
Koda Glover
Byron Buxton

There are some others. I also swung and missed on some, but I tried.

Christian Yelich
Maikel Franco

I think I’ve come to the realization that it’s actually more important to take my own advice that I give than actually winning my leagues. Scary. If I am going to waste two hours out of your day on the radio touting who I want you better bet I’m going to at least try to get them.

If you’re reading this and asking yourself, I wonder if Joe Fantasy actually took Corey Seager in the first round ? You should wonder. You should also check Joe Fantasy’s leagues. If he didn’t, it may be time to read or listen to someone else.

Build a wall, be on time, draft the players you SAY you love.

Is that too much to ask ?
