There are only seven games on Monday’s slate, but no shortage of potential stacks. The tricky part comes if you try to pair a stack or two with one or two of the stud pitchers. For that reason, the top stack of the day is a bit under-the-radar, though cheap enough to allow for flexibility in filling out the rest of your lineup. If you want to pay up for your stack(s) and take a chance on cheap pitching, there are two great options to choose from. The last stack in our list probably has the best matchup, and it is pretty reasonably priced as well.

As always, the stacks for Monday, August 7 are listed in order of preference:

St. Louis Cardinals @ Kansas City Royals (Ian Kennedy, R)

Matt Carpenter, Tommy Pham, Randal Grichuk, Paul DeJong, Jose Martinez, Greg Garcia, Jedd Gyorko, Yadier Molina

The Cardinals are pretty cheap, especially on FanDuel, and they are the perfect stack if you are looking to play Max Scherzer, Carlos Martinez or Jake Arrieta. Yadier Molina is 7-for-18 with two home runs over the last week, and might be my favorite catcher of the slate outside of Willson Contreras. Kolten Wong is batting .391 over the last week, and if he gets to lead off again, I would like him in this stack as well. For his part, Ian Kennedy has a 4.91 FIP on the season, and his .237 BABIP allowed is not likely to hold up much longer. If his luck flips in this game, look out.

Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins (Chris O’Grady, L)

Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon,Howie Kendrick, Daniel Murphy, Wilmer Difo, Ryan Zimmerman, Matt Wieters, Brian Goodwin

Chris O’Grady allowed six earned runs on seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings against the Nationals on Tuesday, and I’m not sure why we would expect this start to go any better. The Nationals have a .803 OPS against lefties and an .842 OPS at home. As always, keep an eye on the lineup. Howie Kendrick has been batting second when he plays, which means either Wilmer Difo or Brian Goodwin will move down in the lineup. I think I would like it better if Difo leads off, especially since he is cheaper, but Goodwin has been great against lefties so far this season. Daniel Murphy may be the weak link in this stack.

Chicago Cubs @ San Francisco Giants (Matt Moore, L)

Willson Contreras, Albert Almora, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant

All five Cubs in the above stack have a .936 OPS or better against left-handed pitchers this season. Only the Tigers and Astros have a higher team OPS than against lefties than the Cubs. Whoever bats leadoff—likely Ben Zobrist or Jon Jay—is worth considering too. They are pretty cheap considering their potential atop that offense. Any Cubs stack pretty much has to include Contreras, considering he is swinging a ridiculously hot bat. Over the last seven days, Contreras is 10-for-22 with five home runs and 13 RBI. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Detroit Tigers (Jordan Zimmermann, R)

Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, David Freese, Josh Harrison, Josh Bell, Adam Frazier

Out of all of the pitchers in Monday’s slate, only Tim Adleman has a higher FIP this season than Jordan Zimmermann. Even Chris O’Grady has been better so far. This is probably a better stack on FanDuel, where most of the Pirates are a bit cheaper. The top of Pittsburgh’s order has actually been quite good over the last week, but they have been dragged down by the likes of Gregory Polanco, Francisco Cervelli, Jordy Mercer and Jose Osuna. The six hitters listed above are batting a combined .342 over the last seven days.
