We finally get our first six-game WNBA slate of the season Friday, and it should be a good one. As you would expect, there are a few more cheap options with six games on the docket, but not too many. Where we really notice a difference in the slate is with the top-priced players. Of the 11 players who cost $10,000 or more on DraftKings (not including Brittney Griner, who is out), the only players I would definitely stay away from are Jonquel Jones and Layshia Clarendon. There are a few players I like slightly better who I identify below, but overall, there are a lot of really good players who all have pretty solid matchups. Unless you feel even more strongly about Tina Charles or Sylvia Fowles than I do, I suggest you plug in the cheap players you like first and then go from there. If it turns out you have to play Candace Parker or Maya Moore instead of Nneka Ogwumike, you will probably be just fine.
Player | FanDuel Price | DraftKings Price | Comments |
Courtney Vandersloot, G, CHI | $ 7,200 | $ 10,400 | In Tuesday's playbook I called Layshia Clarendon a safer version of Courtney Vandersloot. Clarendon was briefly the sixth player in WNBA history to record a triple-double before a stat correction took away an assist, and Vandersloot has a decent chance to take her place against the same Phoenix team. Vandersloot has come up three rebounds shy of a triple-double twice this season, and she could be in for a huge game Friday. |
Stefanie Dolson, F, CHI | $ 6,200 | $ 8,600 | Clarendon and Sancho Lyttle destroyed Phoenix with their pick-and-pop game, and I would argue Dolson and Vandersloot are even better in those situations than Clarendon and Lyttle. No team has allowed more rebounds than the Dream this season, giving Dolson a legit shot at a double-double. |
Kristi Toliver, G, WAS | $ 4,500 | $ 6,700 | Toliver has played at least 33 minutes in each of her last two games, and that streak should continue with Natasha Cloud out. Toliver is averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists over her last two games, and if she comes anywhere close to those numbers Friday she will be a very nice value. Toliver had 17 points, four rebounds and six assists in 28 minutes against the Sun three weeks ago. |
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt | $ 3,700 | $ 5,900 | Tierra Ruffin-Pratt played 26 minutes Tuesday, her fifth time in seven games playing 25+ minutes. Ruffin-Pratt averaged 7.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals in those five games. She doesn't have a particularly high ceiling, but she is a safe cash game play, especially on FanDuel. |
Nneka Ogwumike, F, LA | $ 8,500 | $ 12,600 | Nneka Ogwumike has at least nine rebounds in six consecutive games, with five double-doubles over that span. San Antonio struggled with Washington's size on the boards Wednesday, and Ogwumike is far more skilled than any of Washington's post players. Ogwumike had 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists in her only meeting with San Antonio this season, and that probably represents her floor in this game. |
Diana Taurasi, G, PHO | $ 5,800 | $ 9,800 | Taurasi has scored 30+ points in each of her games with Brittney Griner out, and she is only shooting 44 percent in those games. Taurasi is still a nice value on FanDuel, and she is playable on DraftKings as well. |
Tina Charles, F, NY | $ 8,500 | $ 12,700 | The Fever don't have anyone who can defend Tina Charles, not that many teams do. Charles has scored at least 21 points in six of her last seven games, and the only worry the Liberty get up early and don't really need Charles like they did against the depleted Mystics two weeks ago. |
Bria Hartley, G, NY | $ 3,500 | $ 3,700 | Hartley has played at least 22 minutes in three straight games, taking at least 10 shots in two of those. Hartley could see even more minutes and shots if Shavonte Zellous is out, making her a safe punt play with some upside, especially on DraftKings. |
Kayla Thornton, F, DAL | $ 4,300 | $ 5,500 | Kayla Thornton has played at least 20 minutes in four consecutive games, averaging 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in those four games. |
Isabelle Harrison, F, SA | $ 5,500 | $ 7,900 | I can't help but wonder what Harrison's fantasy numbers would like if she played for a good team with a good coach. That being said, she is doing okay with what she's got, playing at least 24 minutes and taking at least 10 shots in four consecutive games. Harrison is averaging 16.3 points and 7.0 rebounds over those four games, and so long as she sees similar minutes she should provide a modest value. |
Kiah Stokes, F, NY | $ 4,200 | $ 4,200 | Stokes played 15 minutes against the Lynx Tuesday and did not record a single statistic. That is pretty impressive. I'm willing to give her a pass because it was the Lynx, and because she was averaging 6.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in her two previous games. Stokes is a fantastic value on DraftKings, but she is playable on FanDuel as well. |
Sylvia Fowles, F, MIN | $ 7,400 | $ 11,600 | Only Brittney Griner is averaging more fantasy points this season than Sylvia Fowles, yet she isn't even close to being the most expensive player Friday. Fowles has run into some bad luck and bad matchups lately, but she should be just fine against an Atlanta team allowing the most blocks and rebounds in the WNBA. |
Elena Delle Donne, F, WAS | $ 7,800 | $ 11,000 | Elena Delle Donne alleviated any concerns about her sprained right ankle by scoring a season-high 29 points to go with 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks Tuesday. Delle Donne is averaging 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 blocks against Connecticut this season. Like Sylvia Fowles, Delle Donne probably costs a bit less than she should. |
