In some ways, the most interesting position in Tuesday’s six-game slate may be the one with the most uniformity. Even though the power forwards I like all cost about the same, that doesn’t mean you can simply ignore the position. In fact, I’m going to fill that position first, since my lineup construction may vary based on my decision, even if the amount of money I have to spend will be about the same.

The other positions have solid options at just about every price point, so the best approach may be to decide which expensive players you like and then work backward from there. The other tough decision in Tuesday’s slate may be which Raptors to play. I have no issue if you want to play four Raptors, but if you aren’t comfortable with that many players from the same team, you may want to pick one or two before you fill the rest of your lineup.

Point Guard

Jameer Nelson is averaging 13.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists as a starter this season. If Emmanuel Mudiay sits, Nelson is a nice, cheap point guard play.

No team on Monday’s slate has allowed more fantasy points to point guards than the Nuggets, and that is unlikely to get better if Mudiay is out. George Hill is a strong play regardless, but I would like him a bit more if Mudiay sits, considering Denver gave up 10 points, eight rebounds and nine assists to Kris Dunn Sunday.

Kyle Lowry isn’t exactly a no-brainer with DeMar DeRozan out, but he will almost certainly have the ball in his hands more and have to take more shots. Lowry’s efficiency might suffer, but his ceiling is probably higher than normal as well.

Shooting Guard

Alec Burks is risky, especially coming off a back-to-back, but he did play a season-high 25 minutes Monday. If I knew for sure Burks would play 25 minutes again he would be a must-play, but there is a decent chance Utah eases off his workload, which makes Burks more of a GPP punt play.

Out of all of the players who could benefit from DeMar DeRozan’s absence, Norman Powell figures to be the best value. Powell is averaging 13.1 points in 28.4 minutes as a starter this season, but even if he doesn’t start, you can probably expect similar minutes and production with DeRozan out.

If you want to pay up at shooting guard you pretty much have to choose between Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. I’m choosing Devin Booker. Booker has scored at least 20 points in nine consecutive games, and their prices are close enough to make Booker’s safety especially attractive. It also doesn’t hurt that Washington played last night while the Suns had the night off.

Small Forward

Terrence Ross costs more than Norman Powell, but small forward is weaker, especially at the bottom, and Ross is probably a bit safer. I could see playing both guys in cash games, but I have no issue if you would rather play Ross than Powell.

I probably would have recommended Jimmy Butler anyway, but it certainly helps that no team in Tuesday’s slate has allowed as many fantasy points to small forwards as the Magic. Butler is capable of scoring 40 on any given night, and few players in Tuesday’s slate can say that.

The Suns have allowed the second-most points in the NBA this season, and Andrew Wiggins is the best bet to take advantage. Wiggins is averaging 20.0 points over the last two weeks, and unlike the other backcourt options in Minnesota, his fantasy value doesn’t depend on Ricky Rubio’s status.

Power Forward

David Lee is averaging 13.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists over his last three games with Pau Gasol out. Lee’s price has gone up, but he is still a modest value and he should be safe as well.

Over the last six games Joel Embiid has missed, Ersan Ilyasova is averaging 18.5 points and 8.8 rebounds. Ilyasova is an especially strong play on DraftKings, where he costs just $100 more than David Lee.

Markieff Morris has had at least 12 points and five rebounds in every game in January, averaging 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds for the month. Only three teams have allowed more rebounds than the Celtics this season, and at the very least Morris should match the 14 points and nine rebounds he had against Boston two weeks ago.

Center

Jahlil Okafor is averaging 15.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 26.6 minutes per game when Joel Embiid sits this season. Perhaps most encouraging is Okafor has played at least 30 minutes in each of the last two games Embiid has missed.

Dewayne Dedmon got the start Monday and had 10 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes. If Dedmon starts again Tuesday he would be a solid cash play, especially if Kawhi Leonard is out again.

I was worried about DeAndre Jordan’s scoring with Chris Paul out, but Jordan is averaging 16.7 points in his last three games. Philadelphia doesn’t have anyone who can keep DeAndre Jordan out of the paint now that Joel Embiid is out, and DeAndre is the only player in Tuesday’s slate with 20 and 20 upside.

Jonas Valanciunas is averaging 12.6 points and 13.3 rebounds over the last two weeks, and there is a decent chance he gets some more shots with DeMar DeRozan out. Valanciunas should be pretty safe, but I love his ceiling as well.
