Daily Dribble

Welcome to the Daily Dribble where we serve up the latest Fantasy Basketball news and insight so you can make BBQ chicken of your competition. We’ll focus on Daily Fantasy Site (DFS) play, but we will sprinkle in some weekly, season long, and/or dynasty/keeper league insight that should help shape your decision making going forward, as well.

Friday, February 21st

Yesterday may not of been a busy day for DFS, but it was a busy day of NBA teams trading one mediocre player for another, outside of the Philadelphia 76ers hoarding all the second round picks they could and trading away any players that have fantasy relevancy, including saving the most interesting trade of the day for the end when they sent Evan Turner (and Lavoy Allen) to the Pacers in exchange for Danny Granger. (For a breakdown of all the trades that went down the last couple days, along with fantasy analysis, check out yesterday’s Daily Dribble).

Before we delve into the injury news and player analysis for tonight’s action I just wanted to take a quick minute to look back at a topic from Wednesday’s Daily Dribble where I brought up finding some players who had that “revenge factor” going for them and see how it played out (granted it is obviously a small sample size). Here are the players that were listed in Wednesday’s article and how they did:

Dwight Howard no surprise here as Howard, contrary to Laker fan chants, did not suck Wednesday as he stuffed the stat sheet finishing with 20 points (63 FG%), 13 rebounds, an assist, two steals, three blocks, and four turnovers.

Deron Williams was not as dominant versus his old team the Utah Jazz, but he did exceed value as he had 19 points, four boards, seven dimes, a steal, and just one turnover as he and the Nets won in Utah for the first time since he was traded to New Jersey/Brooklyn.

Gerald Green was a bit of a let down as he made only 6 of 14 shots and turned the ball over five times he did finish with 17 points, five rebounds, and an assist.

Tyson Chandler was meh, but it was unlikely you went with him with Howard taking on the lowly Lakers. Chandler finished with four points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and three turnovers.

Thomas Robinson was almost everybody's popular discounted play Wednesday with LaMarcus Aldridge sidelined and no Tim Duncan in the lineup for the Spurs. Robinson came up a rebound shy of hitting my predicted double-double call as he had 10 points, nine rebounds and two turnovers in 23 minutes off the bench against the team that drafted him.

Patty Mills continued to roll hot as he went off for a career-high 29 points in 29 minutes off the bench (13-for-26 from the field) with three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and no turnovers for one of the better performances of the night. Well it is a new night this evening and while you will not necessarily need to seek out “revenge factor” players with 11 of the top 15 worst defenses (in terms of points allowed to opponents on the season) in action tonight, it is something to keep in mind going forward if you are like and believe that revenge is sweet.

Injury News

I will focus on any injury news that pertains to this evening’s slate of games, but be sure to visit our Player News section to catch up on other injuries and player insight that will give you a head start when it comes to planning future lineups.

Jeff Teague and DeMarre Carroll are game-time decisions for Friday vs. Pistons. The Hawks turn around and fly back to Atlanta to take on the Suns Saturday so it seems safe to expect both players will suit up tonight since they traveled with the team to Detroit to take on the Pistons.

J.R. Smith will start for the Knicks on Friday vs the Magic. Iman Shumpert is out for indefinitely with an MCL sprain, which should mean more minutes for both Smith and rookie Tim Hardaway Jr.

Derrick Favors will miss at least another game with a hip injury, which means Enes Kanter should again be in the starting lineup. Kanter is averaging 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in 23 games as a starter this season.

Coach Mike Brown said Alonzo Gee will take the majority of Dion Waiters' minutes while Waiters nurses a hyperextended knee. That said, Gee’s fantasy upside is not very high as is evident by his production last season when he averaged about 10 points, four rebounds, and less than two assists in 31 minutes per game making him more of a GPP play than a cash game selection. C.J. Miles and Anderson Varejao will not play.

Victor Oladipo could return to the Magic’s starting lineup after Orlando bought out Glen Davis. Oladipo is averaging 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, about two steals, and a block in 31 games as a starter this season, but he is inside the top 10 in the NBA in turnover per game this season at 3.1.

Kendall Marshall Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said one of the reasons he traded Steve Blake was to "free up some time in the backcourt to look at Jordan [Farmar] and give Kendall [Marshall] the time that he's earned." Nash is out again tonight. Pau Gasol will start.

Ty Lawson is not expected to play tonight’s game in Chicago.  Newly acquired G Aaron Brooks is listed among probable Nuggets starters.

Expect Elton Brand to get plenty of minutes again tonight (20 points, 11 rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 35 minutes in his last game) with Gustavo Ayon and Pero Antic out tonight. The Hawks face a Pistons team that have been abused by opposing team’s center this season. I would also expect a bounce back game from Mike Scott (Hawks have decided to waive Antwan Jamison).

Jrue Holiday is still out.

LaMarcus Aldridge, Meyers Leonard, and Joel Freeland are out tonight against Utah, so upgrade Robin Lopez, Dorell Wright, and Thomas Robinson again.

Best of luck tonight and be sure to bookmark our NBA Player News page and follow us on twitter @FantasyAlarm and @NBADailyLineups so you do not miss any last minute updates as you go about constructing your DFS lineups. Best of luck tonight and my Daily League Picks article will be posting around 5:30pm today.
