Fantasy Basketball: Daily Dribble 1/27/14
Welcome to the Daily Dribbler where we serve up the latest Fantasy Basketball news and insight so you can make BBQ chicken of your competition. We’ll focus on Daily Fantasy Site (DFS) play, but we will sprinkle in some weekly, season long, and/or dynasty/keeper league insight that should help shape your decision making going forward, as well.
Monday, January 27th
Rudy Gay will travel with the Kings to Utah for Monday's game and could possibly play. Gay is likely too risky of a play in your head-to-head and 50/50 contests, but may be worth a flier in a GPP as many owners may shy away from him do to the risk associated with him tonight.
DeMarcus Cousins did not travel with the team to Utah, thus is OUT for Monday's game. Aaron Gray will get the start versus the Jazz, but Jason Thompson is the player who's value increases the most with Cousins sidelined and the Jazz are a well below average team in defending the power forward position.
How About Some Raptors News
Terrence Ross had the best scoring game of his two-year career with 51 points (16-29 FG, 10-17 3Pt, 9-10 FT) in the loss to the Clippers on Saturday. He added nine boards in 44 minutes. Ross makes for a good discounted play again tonight with...
DeMar DeRozan ruled OUT of Monday's game in Brooklyn with an ankle sprain. Both Greivis Vasquez and John Salmons should help fill the void at shooting guard with DeRozan out, but betting on which one will get the most amount of playing time seems to risky in DFS play unless you were desperate for some salary relief with SOME upside, at which point I would recommend Vasquez just because he is more likely to contribute across the board even if he does not shoot much.
Patrick Patterson (broken nose) will play Monday and may or may not wear the mask. He practiced with it but was having trouble seeing. Patterson has been solid of late, but he could lose a few minutes going forward with the return of...
Tyler Hansbrough who is expected to return Monday or Wednesday.
Other Injury News
Jeff Teague is OUT tonight for the Hawks in their matchup against the Thunder who are allowing the most points per game to opposing point guards (over the last 15 days), which makes Shelvin Mack an intriguing value play as he will again get the start in place of Teague tonight.
P.J. Tucker suffered a right hand sprain at the end of the Suns game at Cleveland on Sunday, but he plans to play Monday at Philly but the swelling will have to be monitored. Tucker gets plenty of minutes, but does very little with them in terms of providing offensive fantasy production. Tucker's main contributions come on the defensive end, so if Tucker misses Monday's game then you should upgrade Sixers small forward Evan Turner when constructing your DFS lineup tonight.
Joakim Noah is suffering from an illness and is a game-time decision tonight. If Noah is out that would be even more reason to play TWolves Nikola Pekovic who has been the top producing center over the last 30 days, average wise.
D.J. Augustine will get the start again tonight against Ricky Rubio and a TWolves team that are allowing the third most points per game to opposing point guards over the last 10 games as Kirk Hinrich is still out with a hamstring injury.
Best of Luck tonight and be sure to check back at 5pm est for our Daily Fantasy Basketball Plays article, which provides you with our tiered recommendations for DFS play this evening. As always, if you have any questions go rouge and post them in the comments section and/or send me a tweet @FantasyNomad.
