For most of us, this is the final week of the fantasy football regular season. Some of us will head into a bye week, others will try to run the table as an eight seed, and, of course, some owners will be trying to play the spoiler role. If you play in a league that allows trading prior to the first week of the playoffs, here are some players that you should be looking to acquire with the ultimate goal of winning a championship!

Quarterback

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers

This isn’t the first time that Big Ben has appeared in this column and rightfully so. Obviously, it hasn’t been the best season for the Steelers’ gunslinger, but most of that has to do with the injuries he has suffered this year. A knee, foot, and now head injury is more than most players could overcome in a single season, but Roethlisberger’s toughness has never been questioned.

What’s on the docket for Roethlisberger and the Steelers is a juicy primetime matchup against the Colts, followed by three divisional games against the Bengals, Ravens and Browns, and an inter-conference matchup against Denver. Roethlisberger has always been one to step up in a big way when it matters the most and that’s exactly what you should expect in must-win games for Pittsburgh.

Even if he isn’t hooking up with Antonio Brown for 150 yards, we saw this past Sunday that Roethlisberger has no trouble maximizing his weapons. Pittsburgh is a pass-first offense and Big Ben will be one of the best options at quarterback during the final five weeks.

Verdict: BUY. Big Ben is such a fantasy stud. Use the injuries he has sustained this season as an opportunity to add him to your squad just in time for the fantasy playoffs.

Running Back

LeSean McCoy, Bills

There is no question that the Bills’ offense runs through LeSean McCoy. Even after missing two games due to injury, McCoy is on pace for over 1,000 yards and seems to be totally healthy. While his stock seems to have fallen, he still has the upside to be an RB1 each and every week. This Sunday the Bills will host the Texans in what is a must-win game for both teams.

McCoy isn’t quite the pass-catching running back he was during his best years in Philadelphia, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be involved. He is a virtual lock to see 18-20 carries per game and can break off a huge run at any time, making him a high floor, high upside play. Though Karlos Williams has shown flashes at times this season, McCoy was in on 62 snaps last week compared to just five for Williams. If this is any indication, it seems as though the Bills are going to live or die with McCoy as the feature back in their offense and you should have no reservations about doing the same with your fantasy team.

Verdict: BUY. McCoy is the focal point of Buffalo’s offense and will see plenty of touches as the Bills look to win an AFC Wild Card berth.

Wide Receiver

Allen Robinson, Jaguars

The time is right to make Allen Robinson a late addition to your fantasy squad as you bulk up your receiving corps for a playoff run. Robinson has been amazingly consistent all season outside of a weak game in Week 1 where he caught just one pass for six yards. He is averaging 9.9 targets per game and is clearly Blake Bortles’ top option.

At 22, Robinson is emerging as one of the best wideouts in the game. He may never reach the level of Antonio Brown or Odell Beckham Jr., but he is the top option for a young, emerging quarterback. As we head down the stretch, adding a guy that is 10th overall in targets would be a wise move because he is going to cost a fraction of the price of Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, or Julio Jones. The best way to acquire Robinson would be to deal from strength. Check for teams that need a quarterback or running back and work the ‘ole two-for-one deal.

Verdict: BUY. This follows a trend as we are looking for players to beef up rosters for the fantasy football playoffs. Robinson is a WR1, but you may not even have to pay that price. Regardless, this is a guy that will see a ton of targets and would be a fantastic addition.

Tight End

Julius Thomas, Jaguars

Let’s keep it in Jacksonville for the final recommendation this week. After missing the first four games of the season due to injury, Thomas returned to the Jaguars lineup and was basically a total dud until this past week against the Chargers. The jury is still out on whether Thomas can or will build off of his nine-reception, 116-yard, one-touchdown performance, but based on past success we are taking a gamble and saying that he will.

With the tight end position in shambles (Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, Tyler Eifert), relying on a veteran with a semi-decent track record is the correct course of action. Allen Hurns always seems to be hobbled and if he were to miss any time, Thomas would be the main beneficiary. His price has gone up after a strong game, but his tag should still be reasonable enough to add before the playoffs begin.

Verdict: BUY. Thomas is definitely the biggest question mark of this bunch, but he also plays at the weakest position and should provide solid numbers down the stretch.
