We kick off the final week of NHL action before we hit the All-Star Break with a 6-game slate. While the Rangers are technically the only team playing the second half of a back-to-back tonight, it should be noted that yesterday’s game was an early game, and it should also be noted that they are an outstanding 7-1-0 this season when playing without rest.

Additionally, according to Vegas, the biggest favorites of the night are going to be the Washington Capitals who are -200 favorites against the Hurricanes, and the Sharks who are -220 favorites against the Avalanche.

I am just going to mention that both of these games are probably not as big of a lock as it may seem. The Hurricanes are a team that the advanced statistics are always supportive of thanks to their outstanding possession numbers (believe it or not, they are 7th in 5v5 CF% while the Caps are 6th). On top of that, they start their annual dad’s trip, so you better believe that they’re going to be pumped up for this game. Just for your reference, the two previous teams who were on dad’s trips were the Blackhawks and the Capitals, and they each went 2-0 on their trips.

And then there’s the Sharks. In the end, I think the Sharks are going to prevail, but they actually did not look good against the Avs in the Shark Tank where the Avs actually dominated the possession game in every single period of the game. It’s tough to decipher exactly why that happened, it’s something to consider nevertheless.
