If you’re playing anything but DFS in Week 17 you need to overthrow your season long-league commissioner. There are a myriad of superstars sitting this week, not to mention the major injuries to Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota and Carlos Hyde, just to name a few. If you are playing this week for a championship, may the football gods have mercy on your soul. As for the daily payers, let’s break down last week and find the trends which will help us stay above the pay lines in the final regular season week.

Here’s the Snap Count Recap for Week 16:

RUNNING BACKS

Stupid people keep chirping about Mike Gillislee stealing production from LeSean McCoy, and McCoy keeps on rolling (Week 16 he led all running backs with 70 snaps, 24 carries, 128 yards and a touchdown). This week Tyrod Taylor will be on the bench and EJ Manuel's lack of skills may have a more negative effective on McCoy’s effectiveness overall. Proceed with caution. Zach Zenner filled the void of Theo Riddick’s injury with two touchdowns over 54 snaps (12/67). Same goes for Alfred Blue in lieu of Lamar Miller (45 snaps, 21 carries, 73 yards and a touchdown). Alex Collins could be in for even greater volume (43 snaps, 7/28) with Thomas Rawls looking shaky to play against the awful 49ers run defense. Of the three, Collins has the most fantasy upside based on matchup, but none are without risk.

The drama between the Saints and Mark Ingram continues to puzzle fantasy owners. Last weekend, Ingram rushed for 90 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns over 48 snaps. I sincerely hope Ingram gets a fresh start with a team which will appreciate him in 2017. Jordan Howard has been the waiver wire pick up of the year in my opinion. How often do you find a running back from the waiver wire that has immediate long-term keeper appeal? Howard rushed for 119 yards on 18 carries over just 39 snaps last week and is still a must-start against the Vikings in Week 17. And last but not least, Jay Ajayi had his third 200-yard game of the year (52 snaps, 32 carries, 206 yards, TD). The Dolphins are realizing that they will live and die with the run game no matter who is under center. The Patriots, however, will do all they can to take him out of the equation this week and make second-string starter Matt Moore have to beat them.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Adam Thielen is definitely the feel-good story of the year and Sunday was the cherry on top (75 snaps, 12 of 15 for 202 yards and two touchdowns). Only two other receivers received more targets last week. Doug Baldwin caught 13 of his 19 targets for 171 and a touchdown, but it was Odell Beckham’s 20 targets over a week-high 88 snaps for receivers that led the way. Beckham only caught 11 balls for 150 yards. His teammate Sterling Shepard actually matched his 88 snaps-played and caught 7-of-11 for 61 yards and a touchdown. Shepard looks like a strong own in 2017.

With Tyler Lockett on IR, Jermaine Kearse (66 snaps, 4/37 and a touchdown) will likely see an uptick in volume and is a GPP play this weekend. DeAndre Hopkins (64 snaps, 3/43) was a huge disappointment after 17 targets the previous week. Allen Robinson on the other hand may have won some folks championships if they had the stones to activate him (62 snaps, 9/147). There may even be some residual carry over against the Colts this weekend. Alshon Jeffrey (66 snaps, 5/92) and Cameron Meredith (62, 9/135/TD) were effective for the second-straight week with Matt Barkley. Don’t let the road match-up against the Vikings scare you away. They have been torched lately in the secondary and both Bears receivers remain viable options in Week 17.

TIGHT ENDS

It’s Travis Kelce’s breakout season. He posted his sixth 100-yard game Sunday after he played 70 snaps and caught 11-of-12 targets with a touchdown. He’s the clear No. 1 tight end heading into 2017 and yes, ahead of Rob Gronkowski, without question. Charles Clay’s recent productive spurt at the end of this season (87 snaps, 8-for-10 for 85 yards and two touchdowns). However, with no Taylor, Clay is too risky for Week 17 ownership. Eric Ebron is looking for a strong close to an injury-riddled 2016. Last week he played 61 snaps and caught 8-of-12 targets for 93 yards. He will again be relied upon heavily versus the Packers with the season on the line. Jimmy Graham (68 snaps, 2/43/TD) will also see a few more targets with Seattle banged up on offense at other positions. Antonio Gates still has plenty of football left in him. Last week in a dreadful loss to the previously winless Browns, Gates played 57 snaps and caught 8-of-13 targets for 94 yards and a score.
