Baseball, more than any other sport, is tied to streaks. Despite it being a team game, hitters and pitchers are judged on their individual performances. A player’s confidence level, whether trending positively or negatively, can have a significant impact on their performance. Even with a great tool like Relative Position Value per Dollar (RPVPD), we can sometimes put too much stock in the larger sample rather than the current trend. After all, what is daily fantasy if not current? Understanding how to exploit a player’s current productivity before the salary adjusts is a great way to build value into your lineup.

Here are five outfielders whose current streaks are outperforming their season average point totals and salaries you can use to your advantage.

1) Tyler Naquin OF CLE

The Indians are on quite a tear winning 11 games in a row. Sure, their pitching has played the biggest role, but a few role players have contributed as well. One of those names is Tyler Naquin. While he was never a high-end prospect, Naquin worked very hard to climb the organizational depth chart and proved himself at every level. Ironically, his skillset compares favorably to Michael Brantley, whose injury opened the door for his playing time. He offers some speed and pop and his .325/.391/.600 slash this season is elite level. On DraftKings, he’s averaging 12.75 points a game over his last four contests. That number is double his 6.4-point average. Currently, his salary is in the $3.9K range with Byron Buxton and Angel Pagan. Naquin is a far better investment than those types.

2) Lonnie Chisenhall OF CLE

Naquin’s teammate Lonnie Chisenhall is on quite the hot streak of his own. Over his last seven games he’s averaging 18 points on FanDuel. Chisnehall may be the poster child for post-hype prospects, but whether or not you believe in his recent surge is inconsequential. All that matters in the daily game is if a player can be productive and cost efficient. Right now, Chisenhall is bringing both skills to the table. At $3.5K on FanDuel, he should have little trouble hitting 2-3x value. The fact he’s been well outperforming that mark of late makes him an intriguing tournament play. Many season-long players will have a hard time rostering him after years of disappointment. However, in this game, shortsightedness can be a virtue.

3) Coco Crisp OF OAK

If you want to really get down to the bottom of the salary pile in the outfield, look no further than Coco Crisp. He’s notoriously frustrating for season-long owners and tends to spend more time on the DL than the field. But again, all we need is “now” and right now Crisp has been delivering the goods. He’s averaging 23 points over his last six games and his FanDuel salary is just $3K. If that isn’t cost efficient, I don’t know what is. He’s always been a streaky player historically, which means the end of this wave is certainly coming soon. In the meantime, take advantage of the salary relief and low risk investment.

4) Shin-Soo Choo OF TEX

Once upon a time, Shin-Soo Choo was a wonderful fantasy asset. An on-base machine with power and speed, who’s aged and broken down in recent years. Currently, Choo is looking like his old self and is 100 percent healthy (for at least the time being). He’s averaging 14 points on DraftKings over his last six games and his salary is a meager $3.4K. He’s even shown some of his old base stealing ability of late which is very encouraging. Choo should be given plenty of attention this week in daily lineups.

5) Khris Davis OF OAK

Sure, Davis can be an all or nothing type hitter. But lately, he’s been more of the former than the latter. Over his last 10 games, Davis is averaging almost 15 points compared to his 10.7 season average. His track record of swinging and missing is suppressing his salary which is very reasonable $3.1K right now on FanDuel. With 4 home runs and 9 RBI over those last 10 games, it’s hard not to roll the dice with Davis’ power upside.
