Throughout the season, you will see repeats on this list and that’s because this article focuses on the trends. All it takes is one injury to occur for a player who is 10% owned to inherit a boatload of playing time. It happens a ton. I will space out these players as much as possible, but impact is impact, and we need to know the depth that is availability on your waiver wire. Create a watch list if you haven’t already.

Ish Smith, PG DET-36% Ownership: With the return of Reggie Jackson, so many people are turned off to Smith. He is losing playing time. What happens if the Pistons Coaches don’t like the way Jackson is handling the ball? Despite the minutes dropping off, the assists he gets can benefit owners. KCP is just as at risk of losing playing time as Smith because Jackson can play effectively off the ball. He’s an excellent shooter and has a quick step to the basket. Smith may the better option though when it comes to making quick passes inside. For now, the assists are still there and whether, we are just getting everything we can out of smith before he gets buried in the rotation, or looking for assists, he’s out there and still getting playing time.

Sergio Rodriguez, PG PHI-35% Ownership: Just as it looked like Rodriguez minutes were going to get completely slashed, Jerryd Bayless injures his wrist and Rodriguez, who has played over 30 minutes in 3 of his last 4 games and also scoring in double figures in 3 of his last 4, becomes a worthy add. The 76ers lack an identity. Joel Embiid is great, but everyone else is a wildcard when it comes to production. Even Embiid is on a minutes limit and the Sixers will need scoring out of the backcourt. Rodriguez has also contributed seven or more assists and at least one steal in three of his last four. He has been on the list before, and the opportunity to play deeper into games is there.

Tony Allen, SG/SF MEM-13% Ownership: Memphis is plagued by injuries right now, especially in their back and midcourt. Teams know to double Marc Gasol and keep JaMychal Green and Zach Randolph on the elbow as much as possible and offense will need to come from their backcourt. Allen has needed to play in the late 20’s when it comes to minutes and has recently posted a 42-minute outing. He is not known for his offense but has scored in double figures in two of his last three games. Yes, the Grizz are that desperate. In both of the games he scored double figures in, he also grabbed 10 or more rebounds. Allen is a steals machine as he has had two or more steals in five straight games. The minutes are there and he is a known solid perimeter defender. He could serve as a good short-term pick up.

Al-Farouq Aminu, F POR-38% Ownership: Watch his health status because as he was getting his groove back in his third game back from a calf injury, he fell, was in pain and his status is currently unknown. He could very well be ok and play. Regardless, the Blazers mid-court has been More Harkless while Aminu was sidelined, and now even with Harkless banged up, Aminu will be getting a lot of playing time. Aminu is a minor offensive threat, but a major defensive threat and will get the minutes, blocks, and rebounds and will need to post up and takes shots. If he is available and does hit the injured list again, stash him because he will be getting a lot of playing time when he returns. He could be the Blazers most effective inside player.

C.J. Miles, SG/SF IND-37% Ownership: Miles is averaging 12 points and just under 3 rebounds a game and has been a great bailout option from long-range when on the court. As soon as the double team comes when Jeff Teague, Monta Ellis or Paul George attempt to drive, I noticed that when he is on the court, it is always Miles who doesn’t have a defender in sight. His effectiveness from beyond the arc and shot selection could make him a good off the bench scoring option. He has also been playing over 20 minutes a game this season.

Courtney Lee, SG/SF NYK-39% Ownership: Like Miles, Lee is also a bailout option on offense, except that he starts, plays excellent perimeter defense and is playing just under 30 minutes per game. Lee is a quiet scorer because the Knicks make a lot of passes around the key and it’s Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis getting all of the attention. Lee also has his step back contested three-pointer which makes him even more dangerous. When Lee is no scoring in double figures he tends to make it up in other categories. He has had multiple games this season in which he has contributed five rebounds and assists. You can also count on Lee for steals. He is very hard to screen out at the key. He sees them coming and is often one step ahead of the defense.

Dwight Powell, PF/C DAL-25% Ownership: When Powell gets playing time, he produces and the Dirk Nowitzki Achilles injury has left a big hole in the scoring as the Mavericks guards are also banged up. Harrison Barnes and Wes Matthews can score, but neither one of them can serve as a No. 1 scoring option. There are shots available and Powell has taken a bit of the offensive burden on. He has played over 20 minutes in 4 straight games. He has scored in double figures in three of his last five games and he is showing rebounding potential. He’s grabbed at least seven boards in three of his last four games. Powell is a lot quicker than Andrew Bogut and his fresh legs alone will definitely be needed. There is room in the rotation for him as the Mavs will be very careful with Nowitzki once he is activated. Available Bigs who get over 20 minutes per game are hard to come by. He is one to look to add.

Kyle O'Quinn, PF/C NYK-9% Ownership: While Joakim Noah is the starter and the team’s enforcer, O’Quinn can provide similar on the ball defense and can do a whole lot more offensively than Noah. Not only is O’Quinn good at following shots, he is also a good passing big man from the top of the key. He can set the early screen, pop out and then quickly hit the cutter. O’Quinn can hit shots from different parts of the paint and will have a lot of games in which he plays more minutes than the oft-injured Noah. O’Quinn has played over 20 minutes in 3 of his last 4 games, and has blocked at least 2 shots per game during that stretch. O’Quinn has also grabbed seven or more rebounds in five straight games.

WATCH PLAYER: Lucas Nogueira, C TOR-13% Ownership: The playing time commitment is not there just yet, but the stats are starting to accumulate. Nogueira has grabbed at least eight rebounds and blocked three shots in two of his last three games. Could Nogueira be the new Bismack Biyombo? He’s tough inside and a hard player to box out. The issue is that Jonas Valanciunas is much more developed and skilled than he is and that is where the playing time issues come from. Patrick Patterson has been a bit more effective in the post, so that also hurts him. Nogueira has had multiple double digit scoring games this season and if he starts playing over 20 minutes consistently, look to add. For now, just watch.

WILD CARD PICK UP: Malcolm Brogdon, SG MIL-2% Ownership: All of a sudden, the Bucks are showing signs of depth that they didn’t even know they had. Brogdon has scored in double figures in four of his last six games and is starting to play over 20 minutes per game consistently on a team that has two consistent offensively skilled players so the potential is there for him to get more shot opportunities, especially from long range. Brogdon has also dished at least three assists in each of his last five games. He has been shooting 6 shots per game consistently. If his minutes continue to be consistently in the 20’s and you start to see him shoot close to 10 shots per game, he could a good final shooting percentage and scoring help off of your bench.
