Were you one of those people who liked report card day back in school? I wasn’t but not for reasons that you might think. Being the youngest of five my parents really didn’t care what kind of grades I got because at that point they had seen it all. Even at a young age I had a thirst to learn and to know. I would pay attention to the things that I wanted to learn about and drift off when the class was talking something I didn’t care about. This happens in fantasy sports all of the time except now I am the teacher, which sucks a lot more than I thought it did by the way.

So each week I will be going over all of my rankings, projections, lineup advice and strong opinions and letting the record speak for itself. Obviously this is a risky proposition considering if I am wrong too much it could be a severe hit to my career. But I have confidence because fantasy football is something that I love and have a desire to learn about every single day. So despite the risk, I accept this challenge.

Here is the second edition of Right, Wrong or Indifferent taking a look back at NFL Week 7:

RIGHT

, QB, Saints

It probably doesn’t seem like much now, but I had so many questions regarding starting Drew Brees this week against the Lions #1 defense. I must have spoke/wrote that you always start Drew Brees no matter what over 100 times last week. But 342 yards and 2 TD’s later that seems quite obvious. But I have a Twitter feed that reminds me that I stuck with Brees this week when many were ready to sit him on the bench.

Peyton Manning, QB, Broncos & DeMarco Murray, RB, Cowboys

These were no-brainers for sure this week but from a daily fantasy football point of view they weren’t. Whenever a player is chasing the record book, it is vital to take advantage of it in DFS. Both Manning and Murray were in line for history this week and each came through marvelously. The only sure thing in fantasy football anymore is that a player going for a record is a sure thing.

Ram’s Running Backs

The key to winning in fantasy football is to know when to jump off of a sinking ship. That is exactly what I did with Zac Stacy and the Rams RB situation last week. On the Tuesday episode of the Fantasy Alarm Show on SiriusXM I told the listeners that it was officially time to cut bait with Zac Stacy. Further, I spent most of the week saying to stay away from both Stacy and Benny Cunningham because the situation was just too volatile. In fact the only Rams RB I had ranked in my top 36 was Tre Mason in PPR formats. Even though Cunningham caught a TD he only got two carries on the afternoon. It was clear that Tre Mason was the only useful player on the Rams and further that Stacy was completely useless at this point.

Chris Ivory, RB, Jets

Ivory was in the Thursday edition of the DFS NFL Playbook as well as in the top 20 of the week seven rankings. The Jets need to simplify their offense and the run game is the place to start. Ivory will continue to get a steady of diet of carries as they try to put less pressure on Geno Smith and the Jets passing game.

, WR, Lions

I could put Matthew Stafford on this “Right” list as well but decided Brees would speak for the QB’s that I ranted about sticking with this week. I don’t want people to get the wrong message here. Tate is not Calvin Johnson and in no way can we expect these types of numbers from him on a regular basis with or without Calvin Johnson playing. But the matchup against a woeful Saints secondary without Jarius Byrd was just too good to pass up and the top eight ranking of Tate has come through in spades. Playing him in DFS this week was a major reason for cashing out five digits worth of winnings.

Marques Colston, WR, Saints

I guess that I had a different read on the Saints/Lions game then most of the world this week. With Jimmy Graham limited, Colston was in line for more action this week for sure. I understand that Colston had been disappointing coming into this game but all of the signs pointed to an improved performance here and that is exactly what we got. I’ve already received a number of “thanks” for advising folks to start Colston and all I have to say to that is that you guys are very welcome. Thank you for listening!

Dwayne Allen/Coby Fleener, TE, Colts

The Bengals are a team that simply cannot stop anything in the middle of the field right now whatsoever. They have been so bad at defending the TE position that I would start just about anybody against them at this point. I loved Dwayne Allen (3-52-1) this week and even was telling those of you who were desperate that Coby Fleener (4-64) was worth a shot.

WRONG

, QB, 49ers

I had Kaepernick as a top 10 QB this week as well as my go to value QB in DFS. Entering this week’s Sunday Night Game against the Broncos, Kaepernick was averaging 72 yards rushing in primetime & playoff games. I figured we would see a lot more of him on the ground but he was completely out of his element while watching Peyton Manning shatter one of the most storied records in the NFL.

Kirk Cousins, QB, Redskins

I am only going to apologize and admit defeat on this week’s recommendation of Kirk Cousins and not the full season version. The fact is that Cousins was on pace for another 300+ yards passing outing this week had he not been pulled in favor of Colt McCoy. I hope that everybody realizes that McCoy did absolutely nothing but throw tiny passes in the second half and that he was not the reason for the Redskins comeback victory. Cousins is still five times the QB that McCoy is and probably close to twice as good as RGIII will ever be as well. But this week he crushed the souls of those who believed in him or that listened to me.

Ben Tate, RB, Browns

I will go down with this type of pick every single day of my life. Yeah, Tate sucked this week and I assure you it was all on him. This wasn’t one of those “the offensive line or QB was to blame” rather Ben Tate was just horrible. He had cut back lanes wide open but didn’t see them for whatever reason. All this being said, I will have Tate back in the top ten of fantasy RB’s in week eight.

New England Running Backs

I was advocating James White all week long as the player to pick up to replace Stevan Ridley in the Patriots backfield. Now I did mention Jonas Gray several times during the week but will fully admit that White was the guy I told all of you to target first and foremost. White was a healthy scratch and Gray looks like the one who will get first crack at replacing the Ridley carries which makes him a priority on the free agent market.

Denard Robinson, RB, Jaguars

I didn’t like Robinson before the season, I didn’t like him this week and I won’t like him going forward. He is not an NFL caliber RB plain and simple. What he did this week was nothing more than an anomaly. I cringe at the thought of anybody putting faith in him in the days and weeks to come. Congratulation if you had Robinson in your top 15 this week. As bummed as I am about not having any faith in him this week I will make up for it by not allowing myself to be fooled into trusting him now.

Kenny Stills, WR, Saints

I didn’t mention Stills at all this past week. So why am I putting this in my “wrong” column for the week? Great question. He is a wrong because I did research last week that uncovered that Stills was quiet last year until the week after the Saints bye in which he exploded for 3-129-2. The problem with having the job as a fantasy analyst is for one having to do so much research that you uncover nuggets like that one. Then figuring out a place to use that information is another struggle altogether. In hindsight I should have used it in a waiver segment or something but instead I pretty much sat on the info and let it go to waste. That is a failure on my end completely.

, TE, Saints

When it was announced that Graham was indeed active Sunday morning, I went ahead and told everyone to go ahead and start him unless you had a real strong other option. I referenced last season when Graham was in a similar position against the Bills and was highly questionable to start. Ironically that was also coming off of the bye week. In that game Graham was active and played just 20 snaps total. He caught just three passes in the game but two of them went for TD’s. I asked everybody including myself that if Graham did that again this week, would I be able to live with that result? The answer I gave was “no” and thus I recommended starting him. The good news was that Graham played 30 total snaps against the Lions. The bad was that he failed to haul in even a single pass.

Jared Cook, TE, Rams

I should have known that the first time I forgive Jared Cook for all of the fantasy heartache he has caused over the years, he would fail me yet again. Cook has 30 targets the past three games leading into a matchup against the 5th worst defense Vs TE’s this year. Thus, he got only three targets in this game. Such is life whenever Jared Cook is involved and shame on me for falling back into that trap.

INDIFFERENT

, QB, Seahawks

I want to make this clear: I do not like Russell Wilson’s fantasy potential whatsoever. Still, I had him in the top 13 this week which is highly unusual for me because I felt that he would put more of the offense on his shoulders after the Percy Harvin trade. What he did in rushing for 106 yards and passing for 313 was incredible and far better than I would ever have thought. Still, the vibe was right this week in that if you were ever going to use him, this was the week to do so.

Justin Forsett, RB, Ravens

I was super high on Forsett this week against the lowly Falcons defense. Sure the Ravens ran for 123 yards and a touchdown in the game and Forsett had 95 of those yards. But without that TD it was just a solid performance especially without the 100 yard bonus some leagues reward for. Solid but unspectacular usually gets you an “indifferent” tag these days.

Branden Oliver, RB, Chargers

I was high on Oliver last week but then reversed course heading into week seven because I strongly disliked the matchup. Oliver didn’t completely wet the bed this week but you would have to admit he disappointed a lot of people. I’d love to take credit for this but 9.8 points isn’t too bad for somebody that was at best a low end RB2 play.

, WR, Bears

There was pretty much zero hype leading up to Marshall playing his former team in the Miami Dolphins this week. I was expecting a huge game for Marshall for this reason alone. He is very outspoken about how bad his time in Miami was and how it almost ruined his career. Instead, Jay Cutler decided to play the role of Matt Cassel this week and throw the ball away. Marshall still ended up with 6-48 which isn’t the end of the world by any stretch.

Michael Floyd, WR, Cardinals

I was high on Floyd now that Carson Palmer is back and healthy. The Raiders defense has been known to make stars out of many fantasy WR’s and I was feeling Floyd would be that guy this week but it didn’t turn out that way. He finished with just 3-47 but secured a 33 yard TD which saved his fantasy day.

Owen Daniels, TE Ravens

I’ve been very high on Daniels ever since Dennis Pitta went down with a season ending injury. This week I had him at my #10 TE which he far exceeded with his 17.8 point performance. In my mind, Daniels is an every week starter at TE unless you have a better regular option. For those that drafted Jason Witten, Ladarius Green, Charles Clay, Dennis Pitta or Jordan Cameron to be your starting TE though Daniels is a much better option.
