Injuries are the bane of a fantasy football owner’s existence. The NFL does such an amazingly poor job at reporting and acknowledging injuries and thus it makes it incredibly difficult to find useful information.

But on Friday’s the NFL has an obligation to report the true status of each player on every roster. It’s the closest we’ll get to knowing who is in or out for this week in the NFL. So the thing to do is to use this information along with the daily practice reports to sort out who is likely to play and sit this week. Only after the status reports come out on Friday does the rest of the week’s activity really make sense.

So, every Friday I will be sending you reports of all at risk players across the NFL. I’ll include the players who are definitely OUT for the week as well as those who are definitely playing. So the focus will be on the questionable players for the week. These reports will tell you whether or not you can relax or wait for the NFL inactive reports on Sunday morning.

Let’s take a look at the Week 4 Practice Reports:

Jerricho Cotchery, WR, Panthers – Thigh

C.J. Spiller, RB, Bills – Chest

UP IN THE AIR

Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions – Ankle

Early this week I tweeted out that it was really strange that NOBODY was talking about Calvin Johnson’s ankle injury that knocked him out of last Sunday’s game. Megatron is definitely the #1 fantasy WR this week in a tasty matchup against the Jets but that is obviously only if he actually plays. The fact that he didn’t practice at all this week is a major concern. Johnson participated in the Lions walkthrough on Friday but didn’t participate in any drills whatsoever. If you remember week five last season, Johnson also was banged up with a knee injury and then stunned us by being declared inactive. As much as I do think he will play this week, I would make darn sure that you have a contingency plan in place so that you’re not surprised on Sunday morning.

Jake Locker, QB, Titans – Wrist

There is little chance that Locker plays in week four. For starters, Ken Whisenhunt just doesn’t like him and cannot wait to get rid of Locker next season. But Locker only got in a partial practice on Friday while Charlie Whitehurst got all of the first team reps all week. Whitehurst will start against the Colts on Sunday.

, WR, Jets – Hamstring

Decker took himself out of Monday night’s game against the Bears due to hamstring discomfort. He didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday but then returned for a limited session on Friday. It appears as though Decker will give it a go against the Lions on Sunday but that doesn’t provide me much comfort. I would keep Decker on the bench until he can show that he can make it through an entire game without issue.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers – Knee

It is astonishing that Stewart is even questionable to play this week after suffering what looked like a multi week knee injury last week against the Steelers. But after not practicing at all this week, it is extremely unlikely that Stewart suits up this week.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Bears – Ankle

Marshall has a pretty serious ankle sprain that he is going to play through once again this week. This guy is an absolute warrior and even at 60% he is a must start fantasy receiver. Jay Cutler will find a way for Marshall to make an impact as long as he is on the field.

, RB, Texans – Hamstring

It’s interesting that Foster was listed as having a limited practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week but those that covered those practices say Foster did next to nothing. This week has been a near duplicate of last week before he was tagged inactive on Sunday morning. I do not expect him to play and thus think Alfred Blue is a solid play once again this week.

Delanie Walker, TE, Titans – Shoulder

Walker sat out Wednesday’s practice before returning for limited work on both Thursday and Friday. He did tell reporters on Friday though that he felt that he had a “great chance” to suit up for the Titans on Sunday against the Colts. I am pretty sure he will give it a go and would make a low level TE1.

, TE, 49ers – Ankle

Davis is suffering from ankle and knee ailments but got limited practices in all week long. The 49ers are optimistic that Davis will be able to give it a go this week against the Eagles. Being a late game creates some issues for fantasy owners however. It depends on what other options you have on your team but ideally you would like to have another option at TE that you can pivot to if Davis suffers a set back.

Ladarius Green, TE, Chargers – Hamstring

Green broke down with a hamstring issue during Thursday’s practice. He missed practice on Friday and should be considered a long shot to play against the Jaguars on Sunday.
