Let’s take a look at the TOUGH DECISIONS for Week 3:

Quarterback

Nick Foles (Philadelphia) or Tony Romo (Dallas)

The Case For Foles: Foles is playing at home against the divisional rival Redskins in a game with a very high expected point total (50.5). Neither defense inspires us this season despite the Redskins destruction of the Jaguars last weekend. Although Foles has been very human so far this season he has a strong receiving corps and the threat of Darren Sproles taking a short pass to the house every time. The Eagles are going to score a bunch and Foles will have a very strong fantasy week.

The Case For Romo: Tony Romo has averaged 30 TD passes over the past three seasons. There is no reason to believe that he won’t reach that milestone once against in 2014 but in order to do so he will have to pad his stats in games such as this weeks matchup against the Rams. The Cowboys have gone run heavy in the early going but they still have Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Terrance Williams and DeMarco Murray to make plays in the passing game. The Rams defense just isn’t what it was shaped up to be especially with the injury to DE Chris Long.

The Verdict: Nick Foles. You just have to love a home game against a division rival where both defenses are pure garbage. Both Foles and Romo have great supporting casts around them but this week Foles has the extra incentive to put up monster numbers.

Jay Cutler (Chicago) or Colin Kaepernick (San Francisco)

The Case For Cutler: This Bears offense is one of if not the best offense in the NFL right now. Even when he’s not throwing for big yardage totals, Cutler is tossing three or more TD passes to his bevy of receiving options. The Jets have been awful at stopping the pass so far this year and there is no reason to believe that will change on Monday Night.

The Case For Kaepernick: The Cardinals pass defense rides high on reputation but isn’t nearly that productive in real life. The 49ers are reeling from their fourth quarter loss to the Bears last week and will look to redeem themselves in a big division matchup this week. Running QB’s always add that extra something to even an mediocre passing effort from a fantasy standpoint.

The Verdict: Jay Cutler. The Bears passing attack is just too powerful especially with a healthier Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. The 49ers should buckle down and keep the ball on the ground against the Cardinals and thus Cutler gets the nod here. Plus, it’s always more fun having a QB on Monday Night Football.

Running Back

Alfred Morris (Redskins) or Terrance West (Browns)

The Case For Morris: Despite all of my doubting him, Morris is continuing to produce at a high level this season. I have already mentioned how I believe the Redskins/Eagles game will be quite high scoring this week and thus you have to like the ‘Skins main red zone scoring weapon. Did you see Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw tear up the Eagles on the ground last Monday Night? Believe me that Jay Gruden and his staff saw the same thing and will give Morris every chance to shred Philly’s defense on the ground this week.

The Case For West: I am feeling as though West isn’t getting nearly enough respect this week. The Browns are a running team period. Terrance West is one of very few RB’s that is assured of 20 touches this week and that should carry immense value. Unlike Morris, West does not come out of the game on passing situations. Sure Isaiah Crowell will get a few carries but West will tote the rock a ton for the Browns on Sunday.

The Verdict: Alfred Morris. Morris is the hotter hand right now and is likely to score in this high scoring affair. He doesn’t catch the ball which limits him in PPR formats but there will be enough carries and scoring opportunities to offset that this week.

Lamar Miller (Miami) or Donald Brown (San Diego)

The Case For Miller: With Knowshon Moreno out with a dislocated elbow it is time for Lamar Miller to carry the load for the Dolphins. Miller is a very explosive runner who has never really had an opportunity to be the lead back yet. I love his skills in Bill Lazor’s offense and think there are few RB’s with higher upside this week.

The Case For Brown: I really like Donald Brown in this San Diego offense. He will pick up the snaps for Ryan Mathews over the next few weeks and be it known that there is no drop off there whatsoever. Despite his size and skills, Brown has always seemed to have a nose for the endzone which is where a lot of his fantasy upside comes from. He should compile some very solid numbers against the Bills this week.

The Verdict: Lamar Miller. I am a big believer in the formula: Skills + Opportunity = Success. That is exactly what Lamar Miller has this week. While the Chargers split carries between three RB’s the Dolphins are prepared to ride Miller this week against the Chiefs.

Wide Receiver

A.J. Green (Cincinnati) or Keenan Allen (San Diego)

The Case For Green: Do I really need to make a case for A.J. Green? Probably not but we all know that it comes down health this week for Green. Is his toe really healthy? The Bengals have a bye in week four and if Green’s toe was even in a questionable place there is no way that he would play this week. Green is currently listed as probable for week three.

The Case For Allen: Allen is also banged up but in a lot less of a manner than A.J. Green. Coming off of a five catch performance against the best secondary in the league, Allen should find it easy sledding against the Bills this week.

The Verdict: A.J. Green. If Allen was 100% I would probably lean his way but if both players are banged up I am going with the one with the higher upside and that is without question A.J. Green.

Cordarrelle Patterson (Minnesota) or Kelvin Benjamin (Carolina)

The Case For Patterson: There are few players in the NFL that are more electrifying with the football than Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson can take it to the house whether he is carrying the football out of the backfield or catching it downfield. His return ability also adds to his fantasy appeal in certain leagues. The Vikings are going to have to score a ton to keep up with the high flying Saints in the Superdome this week.

The Case For Benjamin: Kelvin Benjamin is a dominating force at the WR position. Receivers his size with his hands have a habit of producing at a high level in fantasy football. It is certain at this point that Benjamin is Cam Newton’s favorite WR and the default go to red zone option in the Panthers passing game.

The Verdict: Kelvin Benjamin. It all comes down to calculating upside while factoring in downside here. Patterson has a very high ceiling but unfortunately his  floor is also very low whereas Benjamin is a steady force for a successful team. I cannot rely on WR’s carrying the football for fantasy production and with Benjamin I won’t have to.

Michael Floyd (Arizona) or Sammy Watkins (Buffalo)

The Case For Floyd: Sure Michael Floyd’s value has taken a major hit since Carson Palmer’s injury but it cannot be ignored that he is a very dynamic players. The 49ers pass defense is good but no longer great. I am expecting a bounce back for Drew Stanton this week and Floyd should be a much greater part of the Cardinals offense as a result.

The Case For Watkins: Sammy Watkins is coming off a breakout game and is a hot name for sure this week. I really like Watkins skill set and he appears to have great chemistry with E.J. Manuel already.

The Verdict: Michel Floyd. This one is REAL close but I am going with a proven guy at this point over the high flying rookie. I have faith in Bruce Arians offense and believe the Cardinals are going to give the 49ers all they can handle this week.
