Fantasy Football Weekly Recap: Week 16

A complete recap of all the NFL games in Week 16 from a Fantasy Football perspective

Slide 1 of 16

History was made in Week 16.  Hopefully it was the kind that resulted in you hoisting your league's championship trophy or a giant check from Draft Kings or whatever your Daily Game site of choice happens to be.  It was also historic for a number of other reasons too.

Peyton Manning broke Tom Brady's single season TD record by tossing 4 TD's to bring his season total to 51 with still one game to play.  The Chicago Bears became the first defense in modern history to give up over 2400 rushing yards in a season.  Also, for the first time since 2008 we are going to have a team with 11 wins potentially miss the playoffs.

It has been a wild, crazy year and this week was no different.  So, if you missed anything this week or if you just want to take a look at the NFL and Fantasy Football through my eyes, strap yourself down and enjoy the ride.

Brian Hartline 50 yard catch

Notes

Robert Woods ejected for throwing a punch.

Thomas was active and got more touches than Miller.  Only god knows why as he shows nothing once again.

Bills were able to control the clock the entire game which kept the Dolphins out of sync.

There is really no way to guess what to expect for the Dolphins each week as they can look like garbage.

Notes

Adrian Peterson was involved in early on but as the game turned into a blowout he was rested.

Patterson was more involved in the offense this week but hard to know what could happen with the score.

Andy Dalton was able to do whatever he wanted through the air with that awful Viking secondary.

AJ Green could have been even better if the Bengals wanted him but it was not needed.

Alex Smith the game manager won’t win playoff games if he has to make plays

There is still no reason to even use Richardson for the Colts as he brings nothing to make the team better

Da’Rick Rogers was more involved this week but with the early lead he had no catches in the 2nd half.

Charles only had 13 carries despite a great start but they went away from him a bit.

Notes

St. Louis pass run has become of the best in the league and has helped improve the pass defense a ton.

The Tampa running game has once again disappeared with no running game for Rainey but he did score.

Stedman Bailey has become more involved in the offense which won’t help much this year but maybe next.

It will be interested to see what direction the Rams go next year as being a run first team is their best bet.

Edwin Baker has taken over the starting RB spot as McGahee was active but did not even play

Geno Smith has bounced back in the last few weeks after almost losing his starting job

Josh Campbell was once again awful against one of the worst run defenses in the league.

Notes

Romo only threw the ball 10 times in the first half but turned it on with a fantastic 2nd half for the Cowboys

Just because Cousins put up a ton of points last week it was unwise to trust him in your Championship Game.

Garcon broke Art Monk’s franchise record for receptions and has 107 on the season.

The Cowboys will play the Eagles for the NFC East Division next week.

Notes

The Panthers were inside the Saints 20 yard line on first possession but Cam threw an INT to end the drive.

Domenik Hixon took over for Steve Smith when he left game & caught game winning 14 yard TD.

The Saints rely too much on the passing game and cannot be a serious contender without being able to run.

Mark Ingram carried the ball 13 times for 83 yards in this game.

Notes

Titans went for it on 4th & goal early in game but didn’t convert which almost cost them this game.

I hope those of you who were asking about Jordan Todman all week realized that MJD was active today.

Delanie Walker had a wide open TD opportunity that Fitzpatrick overthrew him on in the red zone.

The Titans got away from the run this year but when they do they’re 1 of the best rushing teams in the NFL

Notes

Peyton Manning broke Tom Brady’s single season passing TD record today with his 51st TD pass of the season.

Andre Johnson should be embarrassed with his performance today. He dropped passes, short armed others,

didn’t finish off routes or compete for the football whatsoever today.

The Broncos have clinched the AFC West Division Title with the Chiefs loss to the Colts today.

Jim Schwartz deserves to be fired after this monumental meltdown the Lions have endured this month.

Reggie Bush was pretty much benched after a first half fumble.

Calvin Johnson played with a banged up knee & ankle. He did not receive a target in the 2nd half.

Jerrel Jernigan has posted quality back to back games but has little value heading into 2014.

This was the third time in his career that Carson Palmer has throw 4+ INT’s and the first in which he won.

This is why Russell Wilson is not an every week starting caliber Fantasy QB. End of discussion.

Even with a win next week the Cardinals could be just the third team ever to miss playoffs with 11 wins on

the season. (2008 Patriots & 1985 Broncos).

Notes

The Packers had a chance to tie the game at the end with 3 plays inside Steelers 10 but couldn’t convert.

Both teams are technically still alive for playoff berths if they win & get help in week 17.

Antonio Brown continued his streak of 5+ catches in every game this season.

James Starks 10-47 yards & John Kuhn 3-12 yards, 1 TD filled in for Lacy after he departed in 3rd quarter.

Darren McFadden played a backup role but had a 5 yard TD run.

Do you remember when Danny Woodhead and Eddie Royal were Fantasy relevant?

Rod Streater dropped an easy would-be long TD early on in this game.

Notes

This game was closer than the score indicates with the Ravens actually outgaining the Pats 358-300 in yards.

Joe Flacco is heavily affected by the sprained MCL in his knee. He was unable to get anything on his throws.

The Ravens desperately need to upgrade their O-line in the offseason to get this running game back on track.

Stevan Ridley carried 15 times for 54 yards and could get much more work if Vereen is out next week.

Bears defense is their worst in history of the organization. This was their 4th game of 40+ points given up.

Nick Foles had 0 off target passes in this game. This is the 1st time since ’08 that a QB has done this.

The Eagles play the Cowboys next week in Dallas for the NFC Eastern Division Title.

The Bears play the Packers at home next week for the NFC Northern Division Title.
