Tonight’s Strategy

11-game slates can try even the best of experts. Often there is a lot going on during the last few minutes before lineup-lock, leaving you scrambling to insert value. Last night was a bit different. I was forced out of action early with an extreme ass contusion brought to me on the heels of Jimmy Butler. By the time lineups locked at 7pm,  I had managed to fit Butler into all my entries. I was dead in the water as soon as the news came through. On both sites.

As always, all fantasy ppg numbers are FanDuel specific.

So, after making a deposit to play today on both sites because the Butler took my money, I bring you today’s Position Coach Article.

Point Guard

The Pelicans-Wizards game will be popular tonight in DFS, and with the highest true usage rate at the position, John Wall as well. He gets an elite match-up with New Orleans allowing the fourth most fantasy ppg to the PG position with a giant 50-spot tattooed on him tonight.

If not Wall, and you are paying up, I like Stephen Curry. Although the Warriors offense is rather difficult to predict, Curry is averaging nearly 60 fantasy ppg over his last three and is in a positive match-up tonight. This game also has the current highest O/U at 226.

Jeff Teague is where I am spending tonight. He is averaging nearly 40 fantasy ppg over his last five and he is facing a Pistons team allowing the sixth most fantasy ppg to the PG position at a real nice price.

The next two plays are dependent on another player’s status.

If no Derrick Rose tonight, which seems to be the case, Brandon Jennings seems like a quick 30-spot facing a Cleveland team allowing the seventh most fantasy ppg to the position.

If Kevin Love sits, then Kyrie Irving gets a huge bump tonight along with LeBron James. Otherwise, Irving goes away for me.

For value, I still like Matthew Dellavedova and Ty Lawson. Both players are just over the $4K mark on FanDuel tonight and could drop 25-to-35 fantasy points.

Shooting Guard

Devin Booker, at his price-point, continues to feel safe to me. He has now scored over 30 fantasy ppg in seven straight, a trend that should continue in an elite match-up tonight versus the Bucks.

Klay Thompson is on fire right now. He is averaging over 40 fantasy ppg in his last three while benefitting from the best defensive match-up for the Warriors tonight. He is the player I currently have paired with Booker in my main FD lineup.

Bradley Beal gets a positive match-up tonight and has scored 35 fantasy ppg in three straight. If that is not viable? I am not sure what is.

Evan Fournier has a criminal price at $5,000 on both major sites. He can easily throw up a 30-spot, like he did last night dropping 36.

In a pinch for savings I also find Courtney Lee and Gary Harris a nice cheap way to possibly get a 30-spot in your lineup.

Small Forward

Both LeBron James and Kevin Durant come in tied in my model for tonight both with complications. If no Kevin Love, I prefer LeBron in a less than favorable match-up. If Love plays, I like Durant. If no Draymond Green (which seems unlikely), Durant goes over James. This is could be tough with a two-hour difference in start time.

Carmelo Anthony is where I am spending tonight in my main lineup. Cleveland is allowing the fourth most fantasy ppg to the three. Anthony also has a higher true usage rate than Durant while providing 50+ fantasy point upside for much less.

If no LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard comes into the mix as well, below the players above in a less than favorable match-up.

No Danilo Gallinari gives Wilson Chandler another bump tonight, who dropped over 45 fantasy points in his last game. I currently am pairing him with Melo in my main FD lineup. Keep in mind, the match-up is terrible.

Kent Bazemore, P.J. Tucker, and C.J. Miles are all in positions tonight to exceed value at their current price-points in the order listed.

Power Forward

Bad match-up or not, Nikola Jokic is the Nuggets offense, much like Russell Westbrook is to the Thunder right now. Even in a bad match-up, he drops 50-spots like nothing. If you can afford him, he is the top play at the position. Especially nice on DK.

Averaging nearly 35 fantasy ppg over his last seven, combined with the Pelicans allowing the fourth most fantasy ppg to the PF position, drove Markieff Morris right into my main FD lineup tonight.

Ersan Ilysova is averaging over 30 fantasy ppg in his last four. Although the Sixers backcourt is a nightmare, the frontcourt is predictable at times. Ilysova should drop 25-to-35 fantasy points again tonight.

Terrance Jones is facing a Washington team allowing the fifth most fantasy ppg to the PF position while dropping 30-spots on a regular basis for cheap.

If no Kevin Love, Channing Frye is worth a look for peanuts along with Dario Saric for the Sixers. Both players are in positions to exceed value.

Center

DeMarcus Cousins has the highest true usage rate at the PF position where he is playing, while also averaging over 55 fantasy ppg in his last eight. You get what you pay for, usually.

The player I really like tonight is Marc Gasol, the match-up is not great, but Gasol has dropped three 50-spots in his last six games with nothing under 30. At his price, I find him the way to go tonight.

Greg Monroe gets a great match-up off the bench tonight with the Suns allowing the ninth most fantasy ppg to the center position. He is a decent way to get a 30-spot for a nice price.

Dwayne Dedmon dropped over 30 fantasy points in his last game and still has a price-tag under $4,000 on FanDuel. If Aldridge sits, he will be hard to pass on.
