Trevor Bauer struck out eight batters and allowed two runs over six innings against the White Sox Wednesday. That's 19 punchouts over 12 innings. Too bad he's also walked nine batters. Huge arm. If he cuts down the walks he could have a breakthrough season. We've been saying that for two years now.

Dan Haren allowed two runs over seven innings against the Braves. That's a 2.08 ERA and 0.69 WHIP for Haren over two starts in his new uniform with the Marlins. He's no star but he does own a 1.18 WHIP for his career and he did win 13 games last season for the Dodgers. Overlooked this draft season was Haren.

Hector Santiago went seven innings an allowed a run to the Rangers. A lefty thrower, Santiago is the owner of a 3.55 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, very boring numbers, but the 8.31 K/9 rate is intriguing, that is until you not the huge walk rate that leads to a career 1.98 K/BB ratio over more than 350-innings. Streaming option is he.

Gio Gonzalez struggled again allowed five runs, four earned, over six innings. Gio struck out six batters, but he's the owner of a 5.11 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through two starts. Gotta throw more strikes though as he's walked six batters over 12.1 innings. The strikeouts will be there, bank on it, but without better control he's going to be a potential burden in the ratio categories. Hold on to or buy low if you can. It will get better.

Eric Stults is terrible. There I said it. He allowed four runs over five innings to the Marlins Wednesday. He only struck out two. He's an NL-only play. No appreciable upside at all.

John Danks - really?  Danks is 0-2 with a 6.10 ERA and 1.55 WHIP after allowing four runs, three earned, in 4.2 innings against the Indians. He doesn't even deserve to be started in AL-only leagues right now.

Anthony Ranaudo was lit up by the Angels. He got five outs and gave up six runs. Great first outing for the youngster with his new team - the Rangers. He's a nice talent, but that's a tough yard to pitch in, and he was sent down after the game. The Rangers need someone to fill-in for Derek Holland the next two months.

Wade Miley wasn't as bad as Ranaudo, but it was close as Miley got seven outs and allowed seven runs. Miley has only last 7.2 innings in his two starts and he's walked five batters with a 1.83 WHIP. If he's the last guy on your mixed league staff that's fine. Hopefully you didn't roster him expecting more.

VERLANDER UPDATE

Justin Verlander cut short his throwing session Wednesday as his triceps just wasn't right. He said it felt "achy." He's not returning anytime soon. There is no ETA but I wouldn't be shocked if he missed the rest of April. Just a guess on my part.
